02+ gated auto shifter modifications

Hello, I've just traded in my 97 5-speed for a 02 auto. The first thing I noticed is that the gated shifter doesnt have a button to unlock it, so pretty much any universal shift **** (i.e. my nice MOMO that I shouldve taken out of the 97 before trading it in.)

Has anyone changed their auto shifter to a manual type universal? (it will be a MOMO)

I am hoping to also get MOMO shift boot that threads onto the shifter and custom fit it to fit around the shifter base (the the gated shifter area.) Ideally giving it a nice standard look to it. I was hoping someone else has done this and has some pictures I could see... I haven't found any through searching.

Also, can anyone think of any major drawbacks besides random people driving the car (mechanics etc) that may not notice it right away?

That thread just shows how to take off the shift ****... thats the easy part.

No one has done this? Why do automatic drivers want to look at an ugly shifter console when it can have a nice leather **** and boot... think of the newer corvettes and mercedes, all or most of their automatics have this type of nice finishing touch.

I see no reason why you would need to physically see the shift console

its been done allot, look around on cardomain
