well the first incompetent mechanic ended up keeping it for about three months doing just the speedo replacement for 300 bucks. now a week at the dealership 1100. and would have been 2500 if i replace all of the cats.

ill search about headers now but some of the posts are old, anyone have any recommendations on headers. doesnt have to be a big debate. just was wondering if anyone knows of people having good results with a certain brand.

haha slash not , the cats went bad because the engine ran out of oil and ran hot, hot for about an hour on the highway. so get your outta here, i may not have 20+ thousand posts but i am a mechanical engineer and im not stupid. the MAF was perfect and it is still on RIGHT NOW and CAR RUNS GOOD.

yeah got my car back, and apparently you know if your cats went bad because they will clog your main cat in the rear. also im noticing a harsh exhaust (still quiet) sound as if you had an exhaust leak. im curious why my car isnt throwing the p0430 code since one of my cats is melted. i ask because if its still semi intact i need to do something about it soon as to not clog the main cat they just put in.

Don't let the word 'stock' fool you, that muffler has been proven to support very close to 250whp, so unless you think you're making more than that, an after market catback is useless for power. Of course, if you don't care if your car sounds like a , then go for broke.
Back on topic. Personally I wouldn't think the pre-cats would fail because of the lack of oil. I would imagine something in the engine would fail before the preacts did. Failing precats typically mean high EGT's (lean AFR) which again leads to the MAF/injectors/coils.

not trying to remain off topic, but yea i've read that statment before, so i'm sure i will keep the stock muffler, not to mention i like the stock look.

For Everyones Information this part located on the following website:
http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/de...03QQ40476.html
WILL replace the factory pre-cats and bolt up to the exhaust manifold. i confirmed this through their live chat with a part rep and he said if you need to replace your precats on a federal spec vehicle this is the "perfect" and "exact" application. for $316.00, less than ONE precat from the factory

So, not going the headers route? Makes sense with respect to the price of those vs aftermarket headers.

Seems like a good deal. I used have the stock manifolds w/ pre-cats attached, the only thing I sold was the y-pipe. had I known you would have needed them (or anyone) I would have sold them to you/or kept them around.

(usually im not the type of person to throw cheap parts on my car, but it is just a cat right?)

It's not as bad as you make it out to be. O2 sim would work just fine. Around here, my car doesn;t see emission testing, so I couldn't care less about my SES light. Runs fine the way I have it hooked up (secondary sensor plugged into the primary header port) I have an SES and around town mileage could be better, but I don;t care for my SES and hardly ever do around town driving. And I've been too lazy to install the sim, heck I have 2 of them, just need to hook 1 up and sell the other.
Not sure where the gravel plays a role here. You wont need a welder. A lift would be desirable, but that is an entirely different subject. (i.e. header isntall). Not sure how/what your plans are, but 85% of the people on here would say a weekend in Austin isn't so bad. Got your dad around, a garage, and in the end, roughly 25 more whp.

ya definitely not bad and looks pretty easy, also im in texas so they stick the thing in my tailpipe and the reliability of an o2 sim looks pretty questionable when considering they do emission test here. and how would you go about relocating o2 sensors without welding new bungs after the cat?

If O2 sims don't keep the code from showing up as an SES light or code in the ECU, I wouldn't be able to use them.

Here in the Dallas area, OBDII cars they don't use the tailpipe sniffers, they simply plug into your ODB port and look for codes and to make sure the ECU wasn't recently reset and still in learning mode. Not sure if they do the same in Austin but if you have an SES light on, you don't pass no matter what the tailpipe sniffers say.

[QUOTE=02SE6MT;6228066are you stock scottwax? whats your setup?[/QUOTE]
Stock other than the OSCAI (homemade cold air) and a FSTB. Considering the phenolic intake spacers when I change plugs (since the intake has to come off anyway), headers and y-pipe if O2 sims will keep the SES light at bay. I'd hate to have to reinstall stock parts every year to pass inspection.

this website now has individual precats for EACH BANK. they look closer to the factory precats than what was previously posted. they are listed for around 300 each.
and im glad to hear the muffler with its design can support ~250 hp as i like the mellow grunt it has now. Every once in a while i like to go fast(er), but the last thing i want is to let everyone know

I'm from Austin and they dont do emissions tests from my experiences.
Nmex, he was talking about the gravel drive way bc of the install right?
OP, i have my OEM precats with about 40K miles on them, but i hope u go with headers. PM me if ur interested.

hey guys, i need some advice again. as my previous problem suggests i have a major oil leak. i usually just top it off whenever it gets low but i thought id show you guys this picture (which was the first evidence of how severe the leak was) and see what i have to have replaced.
This leaked out of the passenger side of the engine by the FRONT timing cover, oil is all over the side of the engine and alternator. This oil puddle was generated in 30 MINUTES ! It blew my mind seeing that much in so little time. O, thats a size 13 shoe for reference... 30 minutes, while waitin for an oil change, and i see this left behind:
CLICKABLE

My question is simple: would valve covers leak this bad? or does it look more along the lines of a timing chain cover. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. What you think nmex ?
OH and i just saw huffdaddy mention the gravel, this is really what i was missing, i was hoping to gauge whether my car was burning the oil or just spittin it out bc i could never see an oil spot. GLAD I caught it, and im lookin for headers now, however cattman has none on their website, but i have an eerie feeling if i called id be able to place an order.
nMex: looking at the threads for headers im assuming its safe to say in planning for headers, i should also plan to buy a safc controller and have it tuned? im just seeing if i should factor that into my budget, i would wanna do it right.
