Mitsubishi Eclipse Gt

I am wondering if a Mitsubishi eclipse Gt 6 cylinder 5 speed and beat a 2k maxima automatic. My friend is planning on buying one and I wanted to know that if we raced who would win. are they fast at all? thanks.

With mods you might be able to hang with him depending on his driving ability, but yeah, they're fast compared to us autos...

well the eclipse GT is a little slower than a celica GT-S and since from the other thread people reported pulling on a GT-S with an auto max, you should pull on a eclipse

just cuz it's a V6 doesn't mean it's fast...

I raced a new Eclipse GT 5sp from a dead stop and lost. We were on a straight road and got up to 100+ when it was over. As you can see from my sig I have about the same mods as you do. But to let you know I had 5 people in my car including myself and my A/C (live in FL.) was running. The Eclipse only had two people in it including driver. He took me off the line but from 2nd - 3rd I pulled in front of him for about 3/4 to 1 car length. Once I hit forth he pulled ahead of me by about a car length and he was up to 5th. He ended up pulling off to exit and I kept going straight. I have confidence that if we both didn't have passengers I would've beat him. Just my .02.

the 2k stick eclipses have a 0-60of 6.6 which is identical to a stick maxima. If you have an auto, you'd have to do more than a y-pipe. maybe a TC, vb, and an intake.

Sprint I'm not sure where you got this information from. There is a eclipse GT who tells us that the best a modd'd NA Eclipse GT does is high 14s. Maxima's and GT-S both have drivers who get 14.5 average's. Just last week an I/E/lsd (that's all) GT-S ran a 14.20x.

If the automatic Max is modd'd I think it'd be close

I thought the AUTOs could hold 3rd over 100mph? Not sure though.

If so, why didn't you manually shift and hold 3rd gear longer?

According to MT test numbers a 5-speed Max against a 5-speed Eclipse GT should be VERY close. So close probably the drivers' ability/reaction-time will determine the winner.

MAXIMA SE
---------------
Manual trans
0-60: 6.7sec.
1/4: 15.1sec@94.4mph

Automagic trans(Road/Track test)
0-60: 7.8sec.
1/4: 15.9sec@88mph

ECLIPSE GT
------------------
Manual trans
0-60: 6.9sec.
1/4: 15.3sec@91.3mph

I wouldn't count that as a lose, due to the fact that you had 5 pass and A/C on. Personally I know my max is alot slower with 5 pass and A/C. But then again if you decide to race someone at your own disadvantage then I guess it is a lose. If you didn't have all those pass and A/C on you would have killed him. Nice try though...

i got this information from arguing with a couple GT owners.. and they led me to their site.. and their were numerous GT's running high 14's .. at that point i quickly shut my mouth

He just got the eclipse tonight and said that it runs 0-60 in 7.9. well I dont know the exact 0-60 with an automatic maxima... but I think that i can beat him. I wont be able to race him for a couple of weeks (needs to break in the engine) but as soon as he does I will. I think it would be a good race.

I have a friend who owns a 2000 5 speed GT. We used to race all the time. The 5 speed Eclipse has a lot down low, but doesn't seem to be impressively fast over about 80... I think that I was easily able to pull on him after 80. We've raced up to about 110 before and it was pretty close. I was too busy driving and didn't pay too much attention because we were coming up on traffic... I think I would have been considered the winner Its too bad we don't race anymore.

IceY2K1,

I could be wrong about the shift points since I really couldn't look down to much cause I had to look at the road. I haven't mastered the art of shifting with an auto yet so I didn't want to screw up my tranny since it only has 2k on it.

y2KAOSMax,

Thanks. I just wanted to see what my Max could do even though I had a full car load.

Did you have Traction on?

You could have squeezed more out of it...

You could have squeezed more out of it, but I understand the worrying about trashing the trans.

I've seen some heavily modified Automagic owners who powershift at the limit(6000rpms?) and they are MUCH quicker at least at the track. You aren't going to hurt the trans by holding it in 1, 2, and 3 until redline(OD off), because the rev-limiter will kick in if you go to far. The only thing you need to be worry about is power-braking and downshifting too low, but I think the tranny won't let you do much.

Blackgums100,

If I was by myself that night I would've killed the A/C but with 5 people in the car during a nice hot/humid FL night there was no chance I was gonna do that.

IceY2K1,

Thanks for info on power shifting. I will have t work on it some more.
