Sticky antenna
Sticky antenna
So I have a problem with my antenna. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. I figure it is because of the cold weather but nt sure. Does anyone else have this problem and if so what did you do to fix it?
I already searched and only found 1 thread about a 3rd gen from like 4 years ago.I was gonna spray some stuff (not actually sure what tho)on it but before I do that I wanted to see what the experts would say.
I cant get my daily fix of morning radio on my way to work somedays.
Thanks

/\/\ when I read the thread I had no idea what you were talking about. The antenna is integrated into the back windshield I believe.
What do you mean it works/doesn't, meaning sometimes your get a lot of static or the whole deck shuts down or what?

Sorry for the confusion guys. Windows have been tinted for about a month, and aftermarket radio has been installed for about 2-3 months.
When I say doesnt work, yes I mean I get a lot of static through the speakers. Some days static, some days it works fine. Just started this last wekk.
At first I thought it was an external antenna and maybe it wasnt extending(I have had that problem with an eclipse), thus my crappy reception, but after examining my car, I realized there is no antenna to extend.

Sounds like the antenna connection is lose. Remove the head unit and make everything is connected properly. Most after market HU require an antenna adapter. Make sure it is properly connected and working correctly.
Yea I have the adapter for it, i need to check the connection. Never had a problem with one of those coming loose before, in my car or anyone elses that Ive done a radio install for. Those connectors have always been a tight fit, doesnt seem like its something that would jiggle loose.
Also in the rear passenger side behind the plastic cover there is a antenna booster, it has a power cord to it and the antenna wires come off it to the window.its the plastic pillar cover right by the glass

This is a little off topic, but this is the closest thread I could find (can't post new threads yet, new user). What I'm trying to do is connect Sirius radio with wired FM modulator. I had this setup in honda that I sold. The antenna plug in the back of the stereo was the standard one, just like on the fm modulator that came with sirius radio. I took apart my 2001 Maxima stereo and found that the Antenna adapter is two prong (is it just antenna, or power too? stereo turns off when I pull the plug out). I found other threads that discuss adapters, but in my case, I need to plug the two prong into the FM modulator (which is regular one prong hole), and then the FM Modulator, also single prong, back into the back of the bose. Is there an adapter, do I need to adapters? Or, better yet, which one of the three stock cables that go into the two prong adapter actually carry the antenna signal? Can I just put a wiretap on that wire and connect the FM modulater to the tap, without any kind of plugs/prongs?
Sorry for the long post, I did not find anyone with the same problem, which is surprising, as a lot of people here have sattelite radios and seem to use the fm modulator.
Thank you.

All you need is a antenna adapter will convert the ends that you have from the bose to the standard on the fm mod. available at most stereo shops.
Thank you for the quick reply. So once I convert the two prong, into a regular one prong, plug it into the fm modulator. Then the fm modulator has a one prong that supposed to go into the back of the radio. Do I need another "reversed" adapter to convert one prong back to two prong so I can plug it into the back of the bose unit?
Nissan Two-prong > adapter > one prong fm modulator > adapter > two-prong receptacle on back of radio?
What does the two prong cable carry besides antenna signal? I see two thick black cables, and a thin green cable going into the two prong plug.

Actually, I think if I plug my factory antenna two prong into this: http://www.autozone.com/R,2617854/ve...ductDetail.htm
and then plug the fm modulator, and then plug the modulator into this: http://www.autozone.com/R,400288/veh...ductDetail.htm
and then back into the bose it should work?
What do you think?
