Fan Operation?
Fan Operation?
I'm new to this forum (and to Maxima cars - I have a 2000 SE). Just curious if anyone knows the operation of the cooling fans. Are they on only when AC is on? Or also when engine temp reaches a certain temp? Do they both run at the same time? I notice a very slight vibration through the steering wheel when they (supposedly) go on. Is this common?
Also, I've read a lot of mods people have done to their Maximas, but haven't read anything about auto transmission mods, such as shift kits (faster shifting) or reprogramming.
Thanks,
Bill

The slight vibration because of the AC compressor is normal... I get it sometimes also. The cooling fans operate when the temp reaches a certain point and switch off soon after that.
As for auto tranny mods, you can ge tthe VB (Valve Body) recalibrated. Don in Texas ( www.mobiletek.net ) does this as does Level10. Also, a higher stall torque convertor from Level10 is another mod.

Dad's Porsche used to have the fans turn on at a certain temp and continue running until the temp dropped, whether the car was on or off.
Is there a way to wire the fans to stay on until the engine temp drops?
