Update: Vibration/low idle in reverse (auto)

I have a rather peculiar problem. 01 gle auto 157k.

The car idle drops when i put her in reverse, there is some vibration in the steering but no vibration through the seats or pedals. In drive there is no vibration but the car appears to idle closer to 600 than 700 and in reverse drops under 600 but not very close to 500.

I am wondering if i need to clean the MAF, throttle body or something in that area? i have never done that before.

no codes... fresh auto trans fluid drain+fill .. oil change due in 800miles... all other maintenance has been done... Spark plugs were changed at 133K and air filter has under 500 miles. Car is all stock.

p.s. Does anyone know why searches through google dont work anymore?

hey idk bout the vibration..but its perfectly normal wen the rpms drop wen put from D to R...i noticed it 2day mine does the same thing...the vibration is probably not related to the rpm drop

Vibration in reverse: might be bad motor mount(s). See if you can inspect them for cracks or wear

I was cleaning up the car today, when a buddy of mine suggested we look at the spark plugs.

I had told him about the vibration and he somehow did not buy the motor mounts item.

We got all the plugs out and we found the gap to be at about 0.036 or 0.038 instead of the 0.044.

It is so wierd that once we sanded the plugs, re-gapped them and put them back in, about 80% of the vibration is gone.

Next weekend, we're going to clean out the throttle body and I think that should take care of the rest.

I was surprised that the guy at the dealership did this !! When i bought the plugs, he had mentioned that they were pre-gapped so i didnt bother checking it. All this time i was running on incorrect spark plug gap.

Anyways, this set has already done about 35K miles so sometime in Jan I'll put in a fresh set.

Also good news is unlike the 5.5 gen'rs even at 157K there is no oil on the plugs :P
