Do 4th gen Accelerator/Cruise Cables fit '00-01?

Does anyone know if the Accelerator and Cruise control cables from the 4th gen will fit my '01?

It's causing the car to over-rev by itself... which causes it to overheat.

Did you try adjusting the free play in the cables? Not really understanding what exactly is happening here.

Very peculiar situation. Uncommon at best. Provide more details, because this is strange.

Previous Post with the problem
Basically, the car would rev by itself between 1500-3000RPM. This would cause it to overheat.

Someone on the Org suggested that it might be the cruise control cable not being seated correctly... I took it to a trusted mechanic, and he said that it might be getting stuck inside the casing. I'm just planning on getting new cables.

The revving isn't causing the overheating. Also, adjusting the cable is real easy. Once you get under the hood and start 'playing' with it, you'll understand how it works. I drive up a huge **** hill to work every morning (8% grade) and laeve it in 2nd gear and it stays revved under load @ ~ 5400 - 5800 for a good 5-8 miles, no overheating whatsoever. Driving down to see the GF, she's at about 3k for hours and many many miles (320) and again, ECT stays @ ~ 185*F - 188*F.

The overheating is related to another problem.

you can see the adjustment nuts in that pic...where the wire leaves the covered part and goes to throttle body.
the overheating is bad thermostat/clogged radiator related

I don't think you understand the problem.

Suddenly, I'll feel the car wanting to pull forward by itself. To test it, I throw it into neutral. Once in neutral it quickly revs up to 3000 rpm, then knocks down to 1500, then quickly revs back up 3000 rpm, lather, rinse, repeat.

When I'm in traffic, I can't just throw it into neutral, lest I sound like an idiot revving my engine up and down in traffic. So, I leave it in drive, and have the brake on. You can imagine what this does to my transmission, and why it overheats my engine... it's like I have my foot on the throttle and the brake at the same time!

If it's not the throttle/cruise control cables getting stuck, the only other system I think could do this is my Traction Control... recently, I was playing around in the snow drifting, and watching the "slip" light come on and noticed that TCS won't let the engine rev above 3000 rpm. It drops down to 1000-1500 rpm in some situations.

Adjust/clean the cable assembly. Check the throttle body as well. I've had a few close ones after reinstalling an intake. Take a good close look at all possible mechanical obstructions etc.

Could it be TPS related?
I know my old 3rd gen used to do that after I f**ked with the TPS.

Very likely the idle air control valve. IACV for short.

They are prone to failure on 2000 Maximas. Can lead to the entire ECM failure. Replace it ASAP.

Search the 5th Gen forum for other examples of this problem.

Righto, next time I get to the garage I'll clean up the cable assy. How do I check to see if either the TPS or the IACV have gone bad?
