Cam position sensor problems...

Okay, I tried the search and the stickied threads (but none of the links in those threads work correctly, they send you to a completely unrelated thread) so I'm going to post this with the hope that someone can help me.

Background: I had my SES light come on about a year ago when I had roughly 58,000 miles on my 2003 Maxima SE, automatic. I took it in and they said it was the cam position sensors and that it wasn't under warranty, so fine, I paid for them to replace the sensors. Less than a week later the light comes on again, same code. So they want to get authorization from Nissan to tear down the engine under the original powertrain warranty. After a day or so of coming up with all the maintenance history they authorized it. Bottom line, they found galling on the cam journals so they replaced the entire engine under warranty.

Anyway, almost a year has passed and less than 10,000 miles and the SES light is back on with the same cam position sensor codes again. The dealership reset the codes today and we're going to see if the light comes back on. It hasn't so far and they've been driving it around, testing it this afternoon. They aren't charging me for this and I've got to say that the service department I'm dealing with has been excellent through all of this.

I am the original owner of the car and have taken excellent care of it, all services have been done early or on time. Other than the stereo (new HU, door speakers, amp and sub) the car is bone stock...never raced.

Anyone else have this much trouble with their Maxima? Anyone with similar problems? If so, how was it finally resolved.

I had a similar issue, but the symptoms were much different. The car would just turn off and lose all power while. Several times it happened on the freeway. For several months this just kept happening with no SES light.

Thankfully, it eventually threw a code. Nissan saw it and replaced the sensors. It's been fine since.
