Stalling Problem, Please help!!

Hey everyone,
I am having a weird issue with the max and wanted to see if anyone could help. Today I started the car, drove for about 10-15 minutes, then was on my way home when the rpm's dropped to 0 when I slowed to a stop and the car stalled out. It had done this the other day but started up again without any issues. Tonight however each time I tried to restart the car the rpm's would drop to 0 and car would stall, I had to drive home keeping the car rpm's over 1K each time it stopped or else it would stall. Can anyone give me any insight on what I need to do??
Thanks in advance for your help!!

IACV or MAF would instantly be suspicious.

But.... ummm....... No codes?

Nope, no codes. I actually had a code a few days ago, (think it is for the catalytic conveter) but it goes on and off every few months, currently it is not on...
I'm planning on cleaning out the MAF and IACV later today to see if it fixes the problem, if not then back to the drawing board....

same problem

I have an 02' SE 6-speed and the engine stalls ocationally when slowing to a stop. Only if I push the clutch in and coast to a stop. The revs will just keep dropping untill the engine stalls. The car starts right back up. The car has 67,xxx miles on it and the only time the check engine light came on was at around 60,xxx miles, but every nissan I've owned does that at around 60K miles for recommended maintainence. Anyway, I am going to clean the MAF like stated above...hope it works. If the other guy find out what the problem is, please post what was done to cure this.

By the way, this is about the 3rd tank of gas that this has been happening, so I don't think it would be bad fuel. Plus it still gets the same mileage that it always has.

its probably your MAF because when my 2k i30 had a bad MAF it would stall when I put it on park but starts rite back on. And those days I didn't get any codes. Try and see if your engine rev high

Hmmm, I replaced the stock MAF a few years ago, wouldn't think I need a new one already...Well I cleaned up the TB, which wasn't too dirty, and drove hit home and it has been running ok, I guess if it stalls again I will order another MAF from daveb and give that a shot. Thanks everyone for your help!!

Ok, so today was driving and when i stopped at a light and put the car in neutral the RPMs started bouncing up and down between 1500-1700 rpms. Also it seems as though it is idling at about 1200 rpms, which seems high. What should I do??

Sounds like the IACV. Had a similar problem with my Accord once after cleaning the engine.

How much does the MAF cost?
How much does the IACV cost?
Where is the IACV located?
Can anyone post a diagram or picture of its location?
Is it possible to clean the MAF without removing it?

Thanks in advance.

My guess is a failed IACV, which in turn probably shorted the ECU. Good luck.

IACV..........GUARANTEED. I had the exact same issues exactly as you describe. Just got it changed. I tried swaping the MAF with a friends maxima MAF and same problem......then i took it to my mechanic who said it was the IACV and swaped it.

Its the MAF, I took mines out and cleaned it, problem no longer exists. If you are over 100,000 in miles is probably time to replace those ignition coils.
