Pulley Noise

For most of you who have replaced your 5.5 gens' pulley are aware of the annoying whining sound it makes after a while. I've replaced the alternator belt twice and the stupid noise keeps coming back. Any suggestions?

Check the tensioner and crank pulley. When my crank pulley was going bad on my 626, it sounded like a bad belt. The outer ring ended up coming apart on me 32 miles from home. Luckily, the inner ring was still intact so the water pump was able to function. Unluckily, no outer ring, no alternator. Made it all the way home on battery power alone and still had 11 volts!

Tighten the PS belt. And use OEM belts.

whining sound usually means the belts aren't tight enough. mine makes a slight whirring sound though with the proper belt tension. i guess that's what i get for getting cheap pep boys belts.
