Any opinion on Akebono Ceramic Disc Pads??

Getting close to 60K miles and starting to notice brake judder. Figure its time to replace pads and rotors.

Looking for something long lasting, good performace, and low dust, for every day driving.

I know alot of you use Hawk pads, but I notice Tire Rack seems to suggest Akebono’s advanced ProACT™ Ceramic Disc Pads. Any opinion on these?

(going to use with Brembo blanks)

Thanks for any advice.....

I put Akebono's on my G35 and I love them. Quiet, no dust, stop great.

I have the Akebono ProAct w/ Brembo Blanks and its perfect. no dust. stopping power is much better than stock and no noise. Hope you like it. Make sure you bed them properly.

Don't know about Akebono's in general (although based on the lack of dusting on my wheels I might have them or some other ceramic pad), but based on switching to ceramics from OEM pads and even Axxis Metal Masters, yes, Ceramics stop very well. In addition, I got noticably better pedal feel when going from OEM to ceramic.

I don't think they are quite as 'grippy' as the stock G35 pads. The stockers are very grabby and wear out in ~30K miles per set. Very touchy stock brakes, so the Akebono's seem much smoother and more controllable.

the stopping power is better than the stock brakes on your 02 maxima? that works for me.. i had hawk pads on my 01, and i was looking for an alternative to them because they are loud and create lots of dust

i just installed brembo blanks and 8 PRO-ACT akebono ceramics. ive put about 1000 miles on them.

i gotta say in all honesty im pretty dissapointed with the stopping power. we drive pretty heavy and clumsy vehicles, and at this point, i wish i had gotten something with more bite. however it IS low dust and low noise (so far).

another thing to mention is that I DID NOT BED THEM DOING THE 60mph-10mph-60mph procedure. i posted TWO threads about it, one in braking and one in 4th gen, asking if it was overkill and there was no clear answer in each. i ended up doing what tirerack suggested for akebonos, which is drive "lightly" for 300-400 miles.
