spoiler installation

Hi all,
I wanted to install a OEM spoiler for my 00. Probably buy it off ebay or something. However, my car doesn't have the factory holes. Is it easy just to drill the holes myself install the spoiler and wirings?

Put the spoiler in place, mark it, drill out the holes and secure it n place. I know it's scary to do but if you want a spoiler then you'll do it. OR, you can take it to a body shop and ask them to put it on for you. For a price that is!

If you know some one else with same car and spoiler you could look on uder side of trunk to help you find the locations. Sometimes there maybe dimples on underside of trunk, even if yours didnt come with a spoiler where factory spoiler would go.

I just removed a OEM spoiler from my 01 parts car and took some measurements of the hole placements. Measurements were started from drivers side front corner of trunk with a tape and located with a square held flush against trunk edge. Ignore pencil marks on square, there from other projects.
I have this wing with the snap in caps that go into the trunk if you want. PM me if you interested.
Hope this helps.

Snap caps fit in the holes in the trunk lid, 2 on each side and 1 in the center in addition to a 10mm nut at each contact point. 3rd hole in center wing support is for wiring. Pic here is of drivers side with caps.

i ddint either. mine were a lot smaller more like the middle hole in the last picture. if you got it off ebay (i did as well) it should come with these tape like things you place on and then you put the spoiler on tape down the strips and BAM! you got your wholes. i'd say tape over the holes and drill a small whole. then slowly go to larger drill bit sizes i change it around 4 times till i got to the right size. good luck! its scary, but possible with a slow and controlled hand.

are there not 'imprints' on the bottom of the trunks since teh factory probably used the same template trunk prior to drilling holes for the trunk?

I have a question on OEM Spoiler Installation.....I installed a OEM spoiler on my GLE with no problems... but the trunk slams very hard everytime if i dont help it down slowly.

Does anyone know how to fix this?
I searched but apparently this isnt a problem for many people.

Try adjusting your torsion bars that control the swing (when you open, it pops and helps you lift it and also provides the resistance to closing) of the trunk lid.

install a hood strut or struts. one should do it with tension bars, if not 2 and take out the bars.

How does a maxima trunk close when the spolier was factory installed? There has to be a simple solution for this but I just cant seem to find it.

There are different torsion springs for spoiler/non spoiler vehicles from the factory. You should be able to get them from a dealer or junk yard. The torsion bars are those two rods looking things going across the top of your truck area.
