Driver door doesnt close straight

Recently started to notice my my door would not close with a thump...instead a ta-thump (for lack of better words )

So on closer inspection..I found 2 things:
1) A small hairline crack on the weld that holds the hinge to the body of the car
2) The hinge itself had some play in it.

Has anyone come across such a thing? If so, how can I fix it?

Thanks

do you jack your car at the frame under the door where the jack stands are supposed to go?

I actually have the same problem but I've realized over the span of 6+ years of opening/closing it while pressing down on the inside handle it has pulled the door down a bit. I have never looked closely for cracks but I will now.

Hi wyche89, I jack from behind the wheel well on the side ...my jack seems to fit right in the track running along the sides of the car. Do you think this is why this is happening?

quite possibly.. my door started making a noise like that after jacking it up alot in that spot.. and after i stopped jacking it in that spot, the noise went away.. it took a while, but it did go away

my advice is to stop jacking there.. just use that spot for the jackstands.. under the front of the car in the center, there's what looks like a little upsidedown mountain.. that's a solid spot that you can use to jack up the front of the car

it has nothing to do off where you jack up the car. This is due to the wear in your door hinges, imagine how many times you opean and close the driver door, over time it will sag and be harder to close. Also, the door hinges are not welded to the car frame but bolted via 12mm bolts, the cracks you see are a crack in the seam sealer and nothing structurall.

get the door hinges replaced, inexpensive parts.

Id say replace the hinges too. Hinges could have been bent due to people hanging on the doors when there open too.

Just get some new hinges. It wouldn't be the jacking because everything is saying stationary and not putting any stress on a certain part of the door more than the other. It is disipated threw the system. It is more than likely pulling on the door to get out or just over time the hinge starts to degrade because of the crappy welding that comes with some of these oem parts.

Mine does it too. You could just adjust it at the hinges to hang a little higher. That would patch you through for a while.
