Strange 6th gear problem

I was coming home from work today and as I was going to shift into 6th it felt like it didn't want to go in. I pulled a little harder and it moved a bit, then I pulled pretty hard and it went into gear. It didn't grind, it was as if it was rubbing against something going into 6th. All the other gears 1-5 and reverse are fine. 6th gear feels like there is something rubbing on it as it goes into gear and you have to pull it pretty hard to go in. I cant figure out what this might be. Any ideas?

Hey thanks for the reply, I don't have a sts. But I think it may be the cable binding up someplace. I disconnected the shift linkage in the cabin and the stick moves around freely so its not there. The only places left for the hang up are in the tranny itself and the cable. I am going to disconnect the linkage at the transmission. If it moves freely the problem has to be in the transmission.
