Radio controls on the steering

Hey Does anyone know if I can purchase the radio controls for the steering from DaveB? If so, how much? Did the steering control only come with the Bose option?

I'm pretty sure all 2k1's got em but I could be wrong. If 2k's got em then it was only with the Bose, I think.

Na, I do believe that it was a "new" thing in the 2K1, I had a 2K prior and never had them either.

Extra plug on stereo?

I've got a 2kSE w/Bose and have an unused plug on the back of the stereo (there are 2 bundles connected to mine - one in center and one on passenger side). Can someone tell me what this is used for? Could it be for the steering wheel controls that *didn't* make it into the 2k model year? Maybe you guys with 2k1+ model years with these steering wheel controls could check if this plug is used in your systems (unplug it and see if your steering wheel controls still work - if it is used). It's on the rear drivers side of the stereo. I don't think its for the cd changer as that piggybacks into the center plug.

That is probably what the plug was meant for. Cant be sure until DaveB says the part #s for the BOSE headunits are the exact same.

Spoke to Dave about this before. It's not going to happen guys, at least not cheaply! 2k Maxs did NOT have this, whether it was an option, BOSE only, etc. Was not available. Now, where the 2k hu can handle it, can't answer that. But Dave said you'd need an entirely new wiring harness in the dash and probably the steering column too. You can probably get the controls and try to wire it in, but you'll be on your own, nothing from Nissan.

I'd LOVE to see it happen. Just too far to reach for those controls on the 2k. Good luck to anyone that tries it.

Thanks Pat, I've been asked this a lot. All the parts that relate to the steering wheel audio controls are different. Head unit, wiring harness, wheel, air bag, and the list goes on. Every time I almost crash into the car in front of me while fiddling w/the radio, I wish it was more do-able!

I have a question. If this wasn't on a 2k then how come the side of my steering wheel has a tab for it? It makes sense that it would need a harness but just curious about it. I have the premium sound system so do i still need a new airbag, head unit for this or can i just buy a harness since there is a tab on the side. I assume this was made in case the owner wanted the steering audio control option and al that would be needed is the harness. I can take a pic to show you if you want. One more thing I want to add, is maybe all things you listed that would be needed for the audio controls on the steering wheel are for those that did not get the C&C package. Or is this still not an option on the 2k max? Thanks Dave. Hope to order something from you in the following month.

it wont work at all

I've been down this road a while ago, and heres what I researched:
1-The 2000 maxima never had this option or connection
2-The 2000 maxima has a differant steering wheel then the 2001's so you'd have to find the radio controlls themselfs
3-the 2002 maxima and 2000-2001 radios wont have the same stock number because there differant( speed volume,rds,6-disk changer, etc.)
4-You would have to change the steering wheel and if your going to do that i would go with the 2002 with the heater (but you'll have a trip button that wont work)
5-The flap on the 2000 steering wheels(on SE's anyway) are to get at the Airbag and stuff, If you look theres a airbag anti-theif bolt there( i think that was an option too hehe)
I hope somebody can find a cheap fix but I haven't so I gave up on it.
Good-luck

Hi Dave,

Would it be possible to buy just the radio control module that is on the 2K1 steering(I'm assuming the 2K and 2K1 steering have same physical dimensions)? I'm thinking I can ooglie wire what ever is needed myself. Any help you can provide on this is greatly appreciated. I am confident I could ooglie wire the controls if I could just purchase the radio control module.

Thanks

I can get the steering switch, it's about $46. Maybe someone in your area w/a '01 would let you look at their car, maybe compare radio backsides/wiring.

You can't be serious. I can reach the radio controls on the center console in a wink with no effort. IMO it was one of the more useless additions to the 2K1, unless you have an amputated right arm, of course.

ooglie = ugly.
A term used here on the org to describe custom homemade solutions.

Can someone with a 2K1, give look and tell if the radio control module clips on//bolts on/screw on? Please take a pic if possible.

Can someone with a 2K1 post some pics of how the radio steering control is attached to the steering. Or can you tell if it looks like it is detachable.

If it is I plan to buy this from Daveb and wire it on myself.

Thanks in advance

Steering wheel control

I have a 2000 Max and I didnt have the controls when I bought it. What you need to do is goto your nissan parts dept. and order steering wheel controls for a 2001 Pathfinder. On your steering wheel you should see a plate that can be removed. Behind that plate is a wire. Just plug it into the control and screw them onto the wheel.

Wait a minute. You're saying you removed that block-out on the side of the wheel where the controls SHOULD go, and low and behold there was the wiring? You definitely had a freak 2000 then - I think most of us interested have removed that plate to be disappointed. Tell us more. . .

Hey Igor,

Any reason you chose the 2K1 Pathfinder controls over the 2K1 Max controls or are they the same but that's the only way to get them?
How much did youo pay for the controls?

I also plan to remove the plate on the left side can you tell me what kind of a connector I should be looking for? I just want to make sure I have this connector because PPL have said they didn't have the conections needed.

thanx, can you post a howto?

The 2k1 maxima controls are much bigger than the pathfinder controls. The pathfinder controls look just like the control that would fit a maxima made in 2k. The steering wheel was made different in 2k1 max from a 2k.

Re: Re: Re: Steering wheel control

Just to end some confusion... not an option on 2000 maximas... period... not part of the bose, nor the C&C package!!! steering wheel controls were introduced the following year (2k1 max).

Dunno about adding them to the 2k max, but I really doubt it's something that can be done easily..
