Air in Power Steering Pump

How do you get an air pocket out of the power steering pump? I replaced a leaky hose on the power steering reservoir this morning, flushed a quart of new M1 ATF thru the system, and when I put it all back together the pump is making a very , very loud grinding noise. Took it for short spin and the noise won't stop. Fluid level is okay but when I shut off the engine the fluid is foamy in the reservoir. I'm stumped. Its a 2001 GXE.

remove reservoir lid and let the car idle so the air pocket escapes?

That did the trick. I noticed it was a lower than I thought too, a bit below the min line so it must have been sucking air. Topped off and the nosie is gone. So is the foaming. Thanks SoonerFan

Start your car up! turn steering wheel from stop to stop and check fluid level, top off to max and cycle the steering from stop to stop 10-20 times this will run fluid all the way thru you rack & pinion!

knapp, you said you flushed the system with 1qt of ATF. Could you tell me what method you used to flush? I check stickie and others had been using the turkey baster method to pull from the reservoir. I'd preferred to flush with return line but worried about yanking high pressure lines. Thanks.
