piping sizes?

Ok so ive come to a conclusion that i do not want an "import sounding cat back what i would like to do is buy my own piping and custom fit it on the car and get a magnaflow borla or flowmaster muffler to install, what i would like to know is what is the best size piping to put on a 2000 max ? a buddy of mine said 3 inch might be too big for clearance with the rear axle..

Unless your planning on some sort of boost or nitrous, stick with 2.5" piping.

Get a good resonator, 2.5" mandrel bent pipe and a turbo style muffler like the Walker Quiet Flow. It should only be barely louder than stock and flow better.

I'm going to have to agree with soonerfan on this one. The stock muffler will flow just as good as anything you can get aftermarket on a N/A car, and the aftermarket b-pipe will remove the tight bends from the stock one.

Matter of opinion, I had a custom b-pipe made along with the muffler of my choice mounted up for $180...the stock muffler sounds like garbage IMO no matter what you do to the exhaust before it.

To the original poster, I agree with either 2.25" or 2.5" b pipe, good resonator, and the muffler of your choice.

I've got the Entire Cattman Exhaust, including Y-pipe with a Warpspeed Metallic Substrate cat! I removed the Cattman muffler cause my exhaust velocity had slowed with the intake I was running, and I wanted to compare the Oem Muffler flow to the Cattman. I found the Oem seemed to have better slow speed response but lacked the midrange and higher rpm ferocity the Cattman exhibited! The Oem muffler is a trick muffler @ low speed it only flows from one tip and at high speed both tips are flowing! It's a very quiet muffler as well! The Cattman muffler in the mean time was being polished, and is now ready for service again! One thing the Oem muffler could not do was break the tires loose at a 40mph roll! With the Cattman muffler on and WOT from 40 mph it's a completely different beast! Slightly louder @ WOT and part throttle, and @ idle it's just like stock! Hopefully b-4 summer I'll have those Cattman headers installed as well!

Of course that's Brian's 2.5" Y, so not a full 3" system.

+1

I only got the cattman muffler because it looked nice. The stock muffler looks so...dead. lol

When I had my cattman catback prior to the headers, it sounded so nice! Nice subtle growl but nothing crazy. These headers did the total opposite hehe

Haha I will be curious to see how my exhaust note changes when I get around to installing the hotshot headers I picked up last week, something tells me I may have to end up installing a resonator...
