How much would you guys say a '02 SE 6 speed with 75k miles is worth? One owner..says its in great condition.

Here's the kicker: I ran carfax and it says it's been in two accidents...he said they were both very minor, no airbags, etc...he is asking $8300.

$8300 would be good if it wasn't in any accidents.. i would try to get him to/her to go a little lower.. and have a mechanic check it out for any problems! but if theres no problems.. thats a pretty good deal.. is it loaded?

i got my 02 SE Auto with 97k for $7200 out the door.. cloth, and not loaded

Thinking about buying a 5.5 gen GLE...

Looking at a 2003 GLE, loaded, grey lustre/black leather w/ 50K miles for 10,995. What do you guys think about the price? It is an extremely clean car - it literally looks like it was just made - not a stain on the carpets... The only thing left to check is a carfax report - does anyone still do those for free or for a couple of bucks?

Why don't you buy 2004 and up?

I have an 02... and man does this car need attention, and the suspension sucks.

I think its too much to pay for an 03.

It's actually for my girlfriend - she used to have an '01 GLE until I totaled it (not my fault). We personally agree that the 02-03 is the best looking model Maxima ever made. I was hoping that the '03 would have corrected many of the issues I'm sure the '02 would've had. The '04-'08 are not that great looking, IMO - they might as well have killed off the Maxima series. The '09 looks better again, but it's so different than the Maxima I've come to love.

That's exactly what i paid last year for my 03 SE w/ 72k the price was a little high but it was the only 6spd i could find within 50 miles and it was at the dealership, they would not budge on the price.

its a little pricey but that mileage is amazing.
the susp is fine for cruising but does leave something to be desired.
i love my 02-agree on probably the best looking max ever

there arent really any issues the 02 has that the 03 wont possibly have-same old shiz-timing chains, coil packs, check the rear calipers, check for odd tranny stuff(better be nice and smooth), and follow your heart haha

Price may seem a little high but if Carfax is clean, miles are real, car had one owner and the condition is as great as you describe it, it may be well worth it.
Any service records? Have they replaced fluids, brakes, belts?

I like the 2003 Maxima a lot. I have the SE model and the only two things that i am not crazy about are the high road/tire noise and the so-so, kind of stiff/rough suspension. The GLE may be more forgiving and nicer. The SE is not as smooth and quiet as i would like it to be. Aftermarket shox/springs helped a bit.

I have 130k miles on mine and so far i had only one thing fail on me - radiator. $150 to replace. I am dealing with some "engine ping" around 2k rpm but a lot of people get used to it and don't care.

I have maintained the car very very well over the years and it pays off. I have replaced brakes, fluids, radiator hoses, belts, filters following the User Manual or a little in advance. I like to play it safe. This type of maintenance would be required on any car you get.

Good luck!

Depending on where you're getting it from, they should provide a report to you at no cost. Request it, it couldn't hurt. Check the book value on it.

www.nada.com
www.kbb.com

IMO, it's a bit much, yes it's clean, yes it's probably fairly loaded, and yes it does has low miles, but saving some money and giving a car a little TLC never hurt anyone either.

Pretty sure this is covered in here: http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...info-here.html

For me, it was the extra 250 or so pounds a 6th gen weighs, plus, IMO, they are ugly as sin.

Price seems a touch high for an '03 but the mileage is pretty low so if the carfax comes back clean and a mechanic says the car is tip-top, it ought to give you several years of reasonably reliable service.

if everything is in good condition and the car is well kept.. i would go for it.. but i would try going down on the price a little.. but for that many miles, its not bad.. and i would check with the dealership if its already been taken care of the recall for camshaft/crankshaft position censor..

well my 02 GLE has a lot more miles but i got it for $5500 i must agree that 5th gens look the best, 4th gens have a strong case, but if you like it and you can afford it i'd say go for it... IIRC all the problems are the same from 02-03 (well the major one)... OIL BURNING

That price isn't too bad for an 02 with 50k on it, but if you could talk it down to $10k, that would be a good deal IMO. Just pay the $25 or however much it is and buy the Carfax.

Here in Canada, a maxima with that milage.... you can pick it up for 8500. I have noticed that the maximas are worth more in the USA. I picked up my 2002 2 months ago with 130 000KM (80 778Miles) for $7500 Tx included straight from the nissan dealer.

Man, I agree. I would never recommend an '04 and up. I hear all the time from different mechanics that 2003 was the last year of the "quality maxima."(the last year they were built in Japan) Not to mention how uuuugly the 04s are...

I don't know about the brand new Maxs, but who wants a f'ing CVT tranny??? ugh...

Not to mention the 5.5 gens were the last year of the soft touch plastics that to me, have a much higher quality look than the harder plastics Nissan used in the Altima, 6th gen Maximas, 350Z and even the G35s. However, if you need a bigger car but still want performance, I can see how the 6th gen would be a good fit for some people.

Dont forget to check out the I35 too. For some odd reasons they are priced quite closely to 5.5gen.

looking to pick up a fifth gen

Hello fellow .orgers The wife and I are looking at picking up a newer maxima. It's probable going to be a 5.5 gen. I really don't know what to look for when buying used other than the obvious stuff. Body panels not lining up, mismatched paint, brunt out bulbs, white or blue smoke upon startup, no check engine light etc.

Anything that really stands out I should look for when test driving this car out?
I am really familiar with the 4th gens but am out of my element with the 5th and up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. (not like that homo .)

Sorry... but I don't have the time right now to read through eight pages of stuff. Can someone supply a cliff note version.

Well I have a set I will be selling from my wreck as soon as the insurance co. releases my ride.

I only had this one a month and got it for $4200 with 97K it was an SE NO LEATHER, NO SUNROOF, NO 17's, NO BOSE...... I am so pissed at the guy that hit me. This was my 3rd 2000...... I LOVE THESE CARS!

I have been thinking of maybe going to the 6th Gen. but it depends what the insurance company pays me. It should be a good sum for the pain and inconvenience this wreck has put me through!

It looks like a pretty good deal, but i would watch out because it looks like the front bumper might have been replaced with an after market one at some point. You can see a larger than usual gap in the front between the hood and the bumper and there seems to be a unusual gap between the headlights and the front bumper. Other than that it looks great

Left headlight is a regular 5th gen light and the right is an AE headlight.

Person above me is right about the gapping, but that is signs of an accident.

5,400$ for an AE is LOW, I see AE's going for $9,000.

Seems like a decent deal. I would look it over mechanically or have somebody else do it. And run a carfax report. Looks to be a clean car.

Wow never noticed that gap.....$9000 for an AE ...WOW that's crazy. I can get a 6th Gen for $9800.

I think its just the camera lighting on the headlights.

id say its a good deal for sure mine has a gap too but thats cuz the front clip has been off a few times so its not necassarely a repair from an accident.

Makes me wonder what my 2003 Maxima SE is worth. I'm the original owner and it has had 2 minor repairs on the left side doors due to parking lot damage that involved paint work but is otherwise completely stock. Nissan also replaced the engine at 58,000 miles due to galling on the cam bearings (kept throwing CEL for cam position sensor).

2003 Nissan Maxima SE, 75,000 original miles, Sheer Silver, Sunroof, PW, PL, Keyless entry...and all the other standard equipment that model came with. All services done per Nissan recommendations. I own it free and clear and it needs strut boots, a tie rod end, and possibly a fuel pump (it is starting to make noise every now and then).

Edit-Oh, and it's an automatic unfortunately.
