hmm.. milage doesnt scare me, but the 2K headlights do..... milage means nothing as long as the owner takes care of it, remove the bra, drive the car and get a mechanic check it out, if its aight then i dont see why not we all know its not gonna be in tip top condition, as long as its o.k with minor fixes... my car is going on 200K miles and you couldn't feel or tell, check members rides...

Carfax reports are not always accurate. Also they don't necessarily reflect body damage to vehicles that are not reported to insurance companies and/or DMV and end up being repaired by smaller shops. I talk for experience. Keep your eyes and ears wide open if you go and check the car out.

Car looks like its in great shape and has been well taken care of. And although the miles are a tad high, especially for that year, it shouldnt keep you from buying it. These engines are strong and will run forever, with proper maintenance.
Also, Kelley Blue Book list this vehicle, with said options & miles, in "good" (not excellent) condition, as $7,225.....via private party.
http://www.kbb.com/KBB/UsedCars/Pric...QuizConditions=
So be careful trying to low ball with a $4,500 or $5k offer....
You might find yourself losing out on the deal altogether. $6,000 sounds about right, imo, if everything checks out ok.

^Good advice^, Carfax is helpful, but you can't really rely too much on it, when I bought my 2000 GLE in 2007, it came back with a flawless 1 owner carfax... when I took the back seat out to run cables for my amps a few months after buying it.... there was broken glass from the rear window everywhere underneath of it. The car was clean with no evidence of structural damage, so I don't know how it happened, but it's just another example of how Carfax doesn't know about everything.

holy cow. I couldn't believe you traded it in for $4k. 2002 Maximas around here (south jersey) are retailing for $10-11k even though KBB said they're like $7k.

wtf are you guys smoking?
it's worth way more then 6k.
wow 2 new loaded headlights are 450 shipped from fleagay.
also the miles are nothing to be worried about. NOTHING. assuming the tranny is fine and what not i say pick it up.
go check KBB. i guarantee it's around 10k private party.

That's a lot of miles, however, I have seen cars with 150K run better then cars with 75K. It really depends on who owned it and how they treated it. Also, I would try to talk him down some more...I just got mine for $6200...with only 115K.
#213
That is the KBB value. Try to sell it for that price and see if you can get that much. For 10.5 you can probably get a 6th gen.
To the OP: I bought my 01 GLE in 06 with 132K on it for 5300. The car needed nothing. There was a stack of records which showed oil changes meticulously done every 3-3.5K miles and trans fluid service done every 30-31K miles as per schedule.
The really interesting thing is my car has no record of wheel bearing gone bad or the MAF and even today with 168K on it there is no bearing noise or signs of a bad MAF. Yeah, its not been beaten on like many others. The only part done as part of the Nissan Warranty was the alternator early in her life at about 21K miles.
If the car has been adult owned like mine and just driven to rack up the miles, you should have no issues.
My personal opinion, buy a car with slightly high miles like this one with all records knowing what has been done to it. I would not buy a car with 90K on it and no records of what was done it to. Especially for the trans it maybe late by then.
The motors today, with proper maintenance will goto 250K with no issues.
Check for the obvious such as the trans item someone mentioned and as i discovered 5K miles later on my car, the bushings.. especially LCA by 150K they maybe shot depending on the type of roads it was driven on or you maybe good
Next check the struts, that is another wear and tear item, you may see worn out shocks and springs.
Door hinges may have worn out too and most noticeable on the front doors.
One sign of good interior care will be good leather. My drivers seat had the most wear and tear on the leather and some cracks but all other seats were good. If the previous owner really took good care, there would be wear but no tears!
Carefully see all the records and call the dealer to findout any service that you see is not normal.
Good luck.. trust me if i saw that car 2 yrs ago for 6K I would have bought it. It appears to look great in the pics.. I had to do a full polish and detail job on mine to get her lusture back and remember cars with a full maintenance record available and adult owned are not very easy to find.

looking at a 2000 se for 3500 what u think
i'm not a newbie total my 4th gen and i'm get 3600 to replace it and i found this car but it has a few problems:
the car
1. the whole trunk is gutted out ( no , carpet, floor, spare tire, and jack)
2. the rear speaker is missing
3. driver side mirror needs to be replaced. ( do it your self stick mirror paper gone wrong
4. had a radiator leak when i test drove it ( lot said they will repair it)
other then that and seems to be ok. but would you get this with these problems. one how would i replace the speaker in the back and the whole trunk for that matter how much would it cost to fix the problem that i see wrong? the car has to be inspected before sold. plus its for 3500 is it worth getting this car and getting whats needed to fix it? please give me some feedback have until friday to decide if i want it.

Those are all minor/manageable repairs but the state the car is in may tell you more about how well (or poorly) the car has been taken care of, so there may be other potential problems.
I am not saying the car is not good or that it's not a good deal. Just get it checked before buying.
My $0.02

the "repair" for the radiator leak will probably involve throwing some pepper down the coolant I wouldn't trust it. if it's in that kind of disarray, it was probably a lot worse before they tried to sell it. I'd be wary (weary?)

Do you have a mechanic that you go to who can really check it out? Is it a VQ engine? VQ engines have a timing chain that will last for about 300,000 miles. Get the VIN and call a Nissan Parts Dept. Maybe check if there are any recalls or recommendations on service needed for that vehicle with the miles that it has on....I did the same thing when I bought my 01 Maxima. Asked all the questions in the world, had the car for the week, let my mechanic at work look at it. So far, so good, other than a few minor things...
Hope the info helped.

i know the mileage is high but considering that i'm just replacing my car with my isurance money and not trying to come out of pocket the miles is ok. i have own my other two maxima both reach 250,000 the last ended up with 260000. i'm about to graduate and hopefully start my career so the mileage is not that much of an issue. i have seen the car fax report on the car and it got 168,00 miles on lease and the rest came from the other owner. the car has 29 service records where each time it pass inspection. the last being at 209,000 miles. the lower mileage cars would cause me to have to come out of pocket for this new car and the money not there for that.

thats what i'm thinking. the car looks good and i could fix up the bad and then prolly sell it for more if not as much as i paid for it
#236
the thing is the problems are minor easy fixes, and the last owner got the car reposed and then it got sold at a auction where the dealer got it from. the guy said that some times people take things that they can make money off of and that prolly why it was missing
No accident / damage reported to CARFAX
2 Previous owners

14 Service records available
29 Detailed records available

I did the same thing 3 months ago; with the insurance money from my totalled 98 max, with 148k miles, i bought a 2000 max with 132k. The objective was mainly to replace my car without having to put money out my pocket. From those pics the car doesn't look that bad. Test drive it and feel it. If you have a mechanic you trust and you can take to him, do it. If there is no SES light make sure it actually lights up when you put the key in the ON position, without starting the car (in my case, someone actually removed the light bulb so eventhough it had a couple of codes active, the SES was not on)
