dreaded exhaust issue
dreaded exhaust issue
Ok. Got the sound of something going on near the muffler but sounds like its coming just before the muffler. Right now I cant find the leak and sounds can echo but sure sounds like its in the pipe right near the pass rear wheel and somewhere b4 muffler. Doesnt sound like the muffler is bad. I want to keep the stock sound and go cheap and if I go to a shop they arent going to have OEM parts. What is the suggested route? I have not done exhaust before but am up to it if it is a bolt on setup. Can the hole just be cut out and a coupling clamped on???
1. Find the leak and then order from Dave B.
2. Find the leak and hunt around for junkyard parts.
3. Go to a shop and have them find the problem and leave and then get parts from Dave B.
4. You tell me.
Thanks a lot in advance.

Midas, Meineke, and a lot of other muffler shops will do a free inspection for you. I'd at least start there to find out exactly what you're dealing with. Once you have an idea, you can get more educated suggestions.
there could be two sections of the exhaust involved, both of which are after the cat. converter: the b-pipe and the axle back section (includes muffler). You can take it to a shop for free inspection(like suggested) and they should tell you which section. Every so often these two sections pop up for sale on the org so check the classifieds as well as ebay.
One last note it could be as simple as the gasket that fits between the b-pipe and axle back flanges and could be a simple $5 fix

Sorry for my pathetic knowledge of the terminology...what's the B-pipe/axle back flanges...is it quite obvious by looking at it? Is there a diagram you can send me to? I looked for a while last night online and it appears that the b-pipe is what goes into the long resonator? Am I correct? Trying to learn a bit on exhaust here.

So on my car the potential gasket leak would be a flange just in front of the muffler? If it is indeed leaking,, I would feel air and is the gasket available at like NAPA, etc? Just a common part?
If i listen on pass side, it sure seems like it is right on the other side of the wheel and that seems to be where the flange might be????
