SE-R Muffler?
SE-R Muffler?
Has anybody had an altima SE-R exhaust on their maxima? I was thinking today, I love how the SE-R's exhaust note sounds, and would like to replicate it if I could. I figure they have the same engine as a maxima, and the same exhaust setup until the pipes split at the back of the car on the altima. So if I take a muffler from an altima SE-R and put it on my maxima, you guys think I can expect the same exhaust note?

SOONERBAN.......
if the piping diameter is the same or larger it should be ok.. you may have to have a muffler shop cut and weld some new flanges on and possibly hangers.
don't worry about negative responses. i came from 8 years in the honda tuners crowd... honda-tech is much harsher than here.. lol. it's the internet - who really cares what others think.

well mabey sooners a little harsh sometimes he does have a point. first a muffler is not gonna sound the same on any two cars, lots of variables but if you got some extra money give it a shot. try using the search this has been asked many a times.
hey, in the end its your car. do what you want and dont let the PIA people on here ruin it for you. Ill tell you one thing for sure, its better then the stock sound of the exhaust which is ummmmmmmmmmmmm NOTHIN
do it and post some videos

give it a go man.. if you can pick one up cheap and have the recources to do it.. if it works.. maybe you will start a trend lol... i think someone tried it with the qx45 muffler on here if im not mistaken...
I've never thought the stock SE-R's exhaust sounded that loud to begin with, I still say swapping out stock for stock is a waste of time IMO.

My STi stock exhaust sounds like crap though, my Evo sounds WAYYYYY better/louder. Even when both are in the garage and started up, the Evo takes over and makes the earth tremble in awe of it's magnificence, my neighbor said it even wakes him up in the morning....4G63 FTW!!!!
I personally think the STi sounds like an old beetle or an angry, growling bulldog, I like the sound; but it just isn't as "amazing" as tuners/enthausiasts make it out to be. I do like the STi engraving on the muffler pipe though, It looks unique.....
Stock Max exhaust is silent though, I imagine there are plenty of ponies waiting to be released because of the restriction...I think I'll slap a Viper exhaust on it just for kicks

This is true, I put down 245 today on a dynojet. I'm running full stock catback with a flowmaster 60series instead of the stock muffler.... Honestly it's probably more restrictive than the stocker, too. I may just go with that cattman catback, though
I did put the stock maf back on, though... my AF was all OVER the place with my 3" one (from 16:1 to 10:1 within 1k rpms and jumping all over), I think it's because I put the maf sensor too close to the filter. I'm going to redo it with some pretty aluminum pipe and put the maf sensor about 4-6" from the throttle body, around 8-10" from the filter, and get a JWT pop for the velocity stack! (very similar to yours

i'm not going for obnoxiously loud... i'm going for a sporty tone to add to my intake
ha... ha... ha... you should all be comedians instead of maxima enthusiasts... i'm not just throwing a random muffler on my car and expecting it to sound like any car.. i actually have some logic behind my reasoning because the 2 cars have the exact same engine, and same exhaust design minus the split in the back, which should not make a difference in sound, because if it did than an altima SE would sound different from a maxima... is that not logical? are those statements inaccurate? if i'm wrong, let me know, but at least i put a little thought into it, and it does has a logical base
i understand that.. and i figured this question was worth asking since the maxima and altima have exactly the same engine, and very similar exhausts minus the split in the back with the altima V6.. i ran a search using "se-r muffler" and "se-r exhaust" and came up with nothing
i doubt it.. if the difference was from the split in exhausts, then an altima SE would sound different from a maxima.. maybe the split aids in the sound difference, and makes the muffler noise more pronounced, but it comes mainly from the mufflers
