HELP - bad fuel pump???

i've got a problem with my 2000 auto cali SE

the car starts fine in the morning or when cold. but when everything's warmed up, like if i were to make a quick stop, and i try to start the car, it starts find then dies out. i can do it over and over with the same result. the engine will stay on if i gas it a little. sometimes more. but when it's on, it stays on just fine and drives without issue until i turn off the engine again. doesn't matter if i stop or slow or whatever, only issue is when i first start the car and the engine's warm.

i've changed the fuel filter a while back so i don't know if that's it.

also, just recently, i noticed that when i turned the engine off, i could hear a watery sound coming from the rear, where the fuel tank could be. didn't really pinpoint it, but it only lasted for about 10 seconds or so. wierd.

is this a bad fuel pump??? if so, where/how do i access it? same spot as the fuel filter?? any recommendations for an easy replacement?

thanks guys.

When you replaced the filter you probably had the entire fuel pump assembly out. You basically go through the same procedure to remove the filter but go a few steps further to get at the pump itself. I highly recommend getting the fsm for this as there are a several connectors, tabs, rings etc to remove and replace.

Sounds like your pump is working. Replace the fuel filter and maybe that will help. Check your air intake connections and see if you have any computer codes.

This is an intermittant issue on the 2k and 2k1 5th gens. Mine has had this issue intermittantly for as long as I have had the car. No one has really fixed the problem.

I would place a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail to see if your pressure is dropping then dying! Could be a defective fuel pressure regulator!
