Weird AC problem.

well, this has been happening for about 2 months.

whenever my car is at a stop or idling, the ac compressor shuts off, and thus hot air blows from the vents.

but when i move it starts working again, and it works perfectly while in motion.

now, getting stuck in traffic in NYC is a nightmare when it is 100 degrees outside

and ac is not running.

errr, what could it be causing this?

Check to see if the AC condenser is clogged with debris. This will definitely cause this condition, and is easily overlooked.

I juuust had what sounds to be the same exact problem.

If you a/c still blows when idling, but just blows hot you have the same problem. Its not the compressor, its the radiator fan motors. To check this, keep your car idled. If you see that one or both of the fans are not spinning, and your engine temperature rising, then you motor(s) have burnt out.

I had to replace both of my radiator fan motors. My shop was able to get me two used ones, and with installation it was roughly $200. Works like a charm now.

low freon?

This sounds like a chronic low-freon issue. Sure, it might be something as simple as debris in the condensor (that's the radiator looking thing in front of the main radiator), but unless it is absurdly plugged, it's likely to just be low freon. The issue is that when your freon gets low, it's hard to pull enough air over the a/c coils. This is NOT rocket science, just thermodynamics

Go spend $30 and have someone with gauges measure it.

Little or no airflow across the condenser. Debris or no cooling fan action.
