5th Gen CF hood install issues, need help.

So I just installed my new VIS CF hood. However I realized that the hood does not fully latch down to lock with or without the hood struts? Anyone have this issue as well? Also I will be installing hood pins. If the main latch is not locking properly would the pins be safe to hold it down?

Last thing. How do I remove the nozzles from the stock hood?

You might need to adjust the hood (the bolts up my the window), my hood was used and someone had already ripped out the hood latch thing....and I would definetly recommend hood pins (it will be fine to install them without the hood latch), I found out how quickly that hood will lift at 50mph. its a must to have hood pins.

as for the nozzles I just bought new ones from the autopart store it was easier and for $10 I had ones that spray just like the murano ones.

Hood pins are a must for me. Hopefully I can get it to lock in though. I'll try adjusting the bolts. Another thing I just thought of was adjusting the adjustable ***** up front.

BTW the VIS hood came with the bolt for the hood struts. Do you guys think I should keep the struts on the new hood or take them off?

I use my hood struts, but I might take them off as the pressure does push on the curve of the hood. My latch didn't fit perfectly either and the body shop had to play "hinge games" to align it. I have hood pins now and they are definitely a must have. I was scared sh**less when I saw my hood at 60+ mph. Grab some Sparco hood pins or the Aerocatch hood latches (I have these) and get them installed. Safety first!

yeah definitly get the hood pins. i to had to play wityh the latch to get it to close properly. Also you have to play with the back bolts so dont tighten them up all the way til the latch closes.

+1 on this. Try not to use the hood shocks because in the winter (you can actualy see it a little bit in the pic in my sig.), my hood actualy popped up and didnt sit flush with the fender because of the pressure from them. What i did was took a blown hood strut from a friend, welded the strut shaft stiff to the strut body, then left the bolt on the hood so i can use the hood strut as a solid prop. Just pop on and pop off.

I removed my latch completely because it just got in the way no matter how many times i tried to play with adjusting it. All i have is hood pins and alot more trusty than the brittle fiberglass latch catch under the hood.

I am trying to avoid cutting the latch off the hood. This stupid thing will not lock! I guess I'll see what my shop can do.

Carbon fiber care is just as important as taking care of the rest of your car. But its great to have and it shows when you take care of it

Elongating the hood latch mechanism bolt holes won't work? I did this on my "03" and it worked at really well. Another trick is to bond a silicone hose or metal pipe to the hood loop and this will hold the hood down securely. Cut and trim to fit and try then bond once you figure out how much preload you want!

Ill try that with the mechanism. My thought is the latch on the hood is fine, but material and hood is not strong enough to lock in. Hood flexes a bit when you try to lock it in. I think it's mainly to do with the spring on the mechanism beign to strong for the material. I'll try moving the latch on the car up slightly.
