They even made a 318... thats a 1.8 litre, nothing to worry about. 328s and 330s are a little more trouble and the M3s could very well hand you your hiney in a basket. So just cause it's a bimmer doesn't mean squat.
I drove a 330 convertable auto and 325xi in auto and stick. The 325 was decent but underpowered IMHO and the B pillar created a nasty blind spot, the 330 was okay but I don't dig on convertables.

Congrats!
I beat a 330ci myself just a couple of weeks after i got my 2k2
And i have an auto!
Beat him twice, from a stop and on a 35mph roll.
He was ****ed tho.
So much for good sportsmanship.

yeah i beat out a 330Cic last night in my 2k2 auto, i had never seen a Cic, only a Ci--so i was kinda curious as to how it would turn out--both runs were from dead stop to about a 1/2 mile--anyone know if there's a difference in Ci and Cis?
2000 BMW 3-series have either 184 or 225HP, but weigh between 3600-3700 lbs. 1999 and earlier models are even weaker, ranging from 138-193HP from the 318 to the 328. These can weigh less though, from 2900-3400 lbs. A 5th gen Maxima should take it easy.

Whoops, the convertibles weigh 3600-3700, the coupes weigh around 3300.

A cars roof provides structual rigidity. A convertible must use more material in the lower part of the car to make it more rigid, making it heavier than an enclosed car. Most roofs weigh about 50 lbs, BTW.
I agree with Med, removing the roof of the car compromises some of the structural integrity of the car. To make up for it, I'm sure the manufacturer reinforces certain parts of the vehicle to try to regain that structural integrity thus adding extra weight to the vehicle.
