Starter Motor/Solenoid

Hey Guys, I did a quick search but didn't come up with anything.
I'm wondering if the starter motor from an auto and a 5spd are interchangeable, and if the starter on a 2001 is the same as a 1996?

I have a 2001 Auto Maxima, and the starter solenoid is broken. Nobody around here sells the solenoid alone, so I'm looking at $200 for the whole starter motor.

I may be able to get the part from a 96 Maxima, but haven't tlaked to the guy yet, and don't know if it's an auto or 5 spd. So if it turns out to be a 5 spd, does anyone know if it's different from my Auto? Also, does the generation make a difference, since it's a 4th and mine's a 5th?

Thanks.

FAST shows all 4th gen starters as superceded to the 5th gen starter PN.

It should work just fine.

I've heard the same, re: 5MT swaps. FAST disagrees, however.

Looks like the VQ35 starters are different, 6MT on the side, but the 4AT still on the top (like the VQ30s, which makes sense given they have almost the same trans).

But VQ30s are all the same:

Definitely.
Does anyone have any tips on where I can get the solenoid itself?

I've called pretty much every place that I could think of locally here, and "Nobody sells parts" for starters. 90% of the places said that they just "Don't have anything", and the rest weren't interested in selling me the solenoid or giving up their supplier.

I found ONE place that could sell me a re-built one, but I would have to trade my working starter motor, it would "take a day or so", and it was still $100. that tells me that they would probably just stick a working solenoid on mine and take my $100.

So if anyone knows where else I might look (where else they may be used or something), I'd appreciate the tip. Even if someone knows of a distributor or anything, I'm running out of options here.

A solenoid from Nissan is $148 plus tax and takes a week or more to ship in.

Thanks.
