Well like most of you with 3.5 maxima's, mine consumes its share of oil, because of this fact I thought it would be a good idea to install a oil pressure gauge as an added piece of mine. I do check my oil frequently and top it up if required but i would like to install a gauge none the less.

I wanted to inquire with some of the other memebers in here to see if anyone has installed a Oil pressue gauge so that i can get an idea of mounting options . I really would be prefer not to do a pillar mount pod but would like something more low key. If anyone has any pictures they would like to share it would be most helpful.

 

oil level and oil pressure are different

the oil can be low and the pressure will still be ok

 

Here is an idea. It looks pretty sweet and you could probably simplify the process if you didn't want it to be flush and square. You could just use a hole-saw and mount the complete gauge...assuming there is room behind the bezel.

hi, sorry to hijack this thread but I am attempting to install an oil pressure gauge as well -- does anyone happen to know where the oil pressure sending unit is located on an 02? i have a chilton manual and it shows it being in the side of the oil pan, but thats on a 4th gen and I am not sure where the oil pressure sending unit is located on the 5th gen

 

OPSU is in the same location for all FWD VQs.

The easiest way to add an oil pressure gauge is to use one of these oil filter sandwiches and screw the oil pressure sender right into it.

I couldent find one made for the maxima but this one is for a 350z and should work

If he keeps an eye on his pressure and notice its dropping gradually daily at least its an early sign the motor is about to go.

 

No, not that the motor is about to go, but the fact that his oil level (yes it does have something to do with level as well) is lowering gradually.

What matty was referring to was a sudden drop in OP @ high RPM, and there's nothing you can do about it, unless of course you install a kill switch, we he stated.

 

you could mount it to the a-pillar, and i could sell you an a-pillar guage pod which will hold two more guages! :P

 

If it is going to be used to watch oil level then, yes, its not going to help at all. Or if your oil pump explodes like dandy's did.

My earlier post was just a general statement about having an oil pressure sensor.

 

i recently bought a gauge pod from glowshiftgauges.com and it looks amazing. but havent really hook up the gauges due to time and i dont no where or what color wires i have to tap onto is there a thread i can go to to find this info or does anyone know. tried the wiring thread but the hyperlink is messed up.
