leaking vias control solenoid?

I have noticed that the cap on my Vias control solenoid is just slightly leaking. Is this supposed to do this? here is a picture of the cap. I'm not sure if i should stop the leak or if it is supposed to slightly leak out of there.

Just for fun--

well if someone gets a chance to run out to their car and check to see if it's just barely leaking that would be AWESOME.

I did not see a leak on mine. Are you referring to the little discolored area next to the 2nd bolt on the right?

Question on VIAS Behavior:

When the car is off, my VIAS/Power Valve is in the open position. I define open as the valve is sitting perpendicular to the ground => | allowing the cavity in which the VIAS resides to be open to both parts of the intake.

Now, at a certain RPM the valve is supposed to be closed (parallel to the ground) => -- causing only the top portion of in the intake to be receiving incoming air.

Should the VIAS be in -- or | at low RPM (below 3000)?

Last night, I put a string in the arm so that if it closed (--) it would drop the string. This morning, driving to work, I went up from 60 MPH to 75 MPH and reached 3100 RPM. The VIAS never moved though. With the car idleing, the VIAS is in the open position.

im actually talking about the little black cap right in the dead center of the picture above the electrical connection. I can tell that it is leaking a little bit.

You should be able to hear your VIAS kick in at like 3500 rpm when your driving. I can hear mine kick in but i still think im having problems because i can feel my car stuttering until just right before it kicks in. Not sure if it's my VIAS acting up or what. also i have had someone rev up the engine in park to see if my VIAS moves but im not sure if it activates when not moving. atleast mine didn't move at all. I will try to put some tape or something around mine and see if it moves while in drive though. I'll take a look at mine after work and see what position it is in.

Actually, both portions (banks) are receiving air. This can be seen by following the TB and the elbow. The elbow is split, so from the TB, air is directed to both upper & lower portions of the plenum.

Here's a description:

Also, the RPM's it is ON ( -- ) are 1800 - 3600 RPM.

NmexMAX,

Thanks for posting that. If the VIAS valve is left in default mode, open, other than the loss of power, what else can happen? IE, would the computer send more fuel thinking the valve was closed when it sends the signal? (or would the O2 sensor lean it out)

Severe loss of torque in that range is all that would happen. (dyno proven by me )

The ECU adjusts AFR according to what the MAF sees, and the MAF sees changes in intake volume, etc, so it (ECU) would compensate with respect to the MAF, not the VIAS system / solenoid.
