Easy Questions

2000 Maxima

A. Where is the receiver/drier located? I just replaced the compressor and need to find this to replace it. Is it hard to replace?

B. Replaced compressor with a used one from same year maxima but much fewer miles. Do I need to re-oil it or should it be ok?

Thanks!

It's a cylinder attached to the right side of your radiator.

I wouldn't trust a used compressor. Get new.

You are going to have to pull a vacuum to discharge all the moisture from the system before recharging, and I bet you don't have them tools.

Replaced the dryer/reciever. $70 ~2hours
Replaced the compressor with one from a max with 32K miles on it. $160 ~2hours
Had a shop do a vac and full recharge. $100

Total cost to repair A/C = $330

Total labor time 4hrs (I could do it again in half that time now)

Original repair estimate = $1600

Saved = $1270

I know you didn't violate EPA rules by venting the refrigerant into the air.....right?

Glad you saved some money. It always saves money doing it yourself.

It wasn't me that leaked all the coolant out into the air. That would be the wonderful compressor that decided to do go out and dump all the coolant itself. When i worked on it, it was bone dry. Took 24 ounces of coolant to fill.

Wait, what? 24 pounds of R134a?

Something is very wrong there.
