Help Please!

I'm trying to replace my outer tie rod ends, and I ran into a problem. I disconnected it from the steering knuckle, and the next step is to screw it off of the steering rod, put a new one on, and voila, done. But when I try to turn the tie rod end off of the steering rod, the rod turns with it, so I am at a lost. If any of you guys have experience with this or advice I appreciate it.

Use vice grips to hold the rod in place and to keep it from spinning with it.

$200 bucks sounds steep. Hope it includes at least front end alignment too. It should take 4 hours for a shop. Heck, it took me 20-30 mins. per side on mine - then paid 60 bucks for alignment.

Nah 4 hours is the time I spent trying to get the damn thing off. LOL. 220 is what I paid the shop, and yes, it did come with an alignment, and yes, it is very steep! Sigh....it's the first time I've had to take my car to the shop in a long time....
