I never said fluid levels won't affect shifting and I don't have a new gearbox design. I said tranny fluid levels don't have anything to do with the clutch operation.

Please read, and understand, the thread fully before leaving smart a$$ comments for people who know what they're talking about.
Since this post has been up I've made comments regarding his pressure plate spring fingers at least twice and no one's giving any feed back regarding that...Inconsistent shifting into gear can be lube related...whether you believe it or not. So maybe if this guy drops his tranny, he'll see where real problem is...I'm just trying to assist from the otherside of the country! Changing all these parts that have nothing do with the real problem, maybe your style I'm just again trying to enlighten you younger guys that may be less experienced with this particular problem...I'll keep my comments to the positive side as always and lighten up on my smart A$$ remarks, cause you seem to be very sensitive by the way! Sorry !!!

Well, as many of you said, the problem does have something to do with the clutch. After telling me it seemed to be a hydraulic issue, the shop went through the entire hydraulic system and said it was perfectly fine. They now say that it needs a clutch.

From what I can gather, I'm getting a decent price for the work so I guess it;s not all that bad. The guy told me what kind of clutch they were installing, but I really had never heard of it before. He said it was an Absolute clutch made by Deluth Racing or somehting like that.

Anyway, I was really not wanting to spend the money on a clutch, but from what I've read on some other threads, 80K on a Maxima clutch is about right. Sucks since I got 190K out of my S10 clutch

I'm kind of in a similar situation as you are. I was driving around my '01 on Sunday and all of a sudden I lost pressure in the clutch pedal. There was no pressure the first half of the clutch travel, but there was still pressure in the bottom half. I put it in neutral w/ the car off and pumped the clutch pedal rapidly a few times, and pressure returned. I know this isn't a permanent fix, but it worked for the time being. The same thing happened to my '96 5spd w/ 120k back in the summer of '03, and the culprit was the slave cylinder. I'm away at college right now, which can make repairing my car difficult, but luckily I was visiting friends closer to home. I was able to get the car back to my house and pick up my brothers car (the 96 5spd as mentioned earlier, which now has 160k on it). So my dad is going to take it to our family mechanic and see what exactly is wrong with it. I'm pretty sure that the slave cylinder is the problem, but we'll have to wait and see.

oh and btw, i have an 01 AE MT w/ almost the exact same amount of miles. I'm about to hit 79k. I would certainly hope that your clutch would last longer than this, but it all depends on how it has been driven. My 96 went 140k before it needed a new clutch.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I don't think a new thread needs to be started. Ok, so I got the word back from my mechanic. When the car was dropped off earlier this week, he thought it could be the slave cylinder that was going bad. Well come to find out today, he couldn't get the car to duplicate the issue, and basically said that the slave cylinder is fine. He also checked the master cylinder, and accompanying hoses, and they checked out ok. What could cause my car to lose pressure in the pedal, and then all of a sudden not have a problem? I don't understand how it could 'intermittently' do this! Any help would be appreciated!
