I detail a lot though and the paint underneath is faded and overly oxidized. It would kill the look of the car.

 

They kinda scream "HEY LOOK AT MEEEEE!!" They should match the car or not be there at all IMO.

 

If I were you I would paint them the same color as the car. The way it is now, it looks like you put mudguards off another car on yours.

Well... first of all you asked what we think and the consensus or "standard" is that red guard is hideous (or at least that's the vibe that I'm getting).

It might be "boring" to have body color, but it's subtle and clean that way. Strictly IMO.

My suggestion is that if you want to be different, try other colors that are complementary to your body color instead of finding a small portion of red and thinking it will flow. I do get that the rear sidemarker is red, but that doesn't justify (to me at least) that red guards will "flow". And let's just say it did, what about the front? This is not connect the dot where rear sidemarkers flow to the rear guards and rear guards flow to the front guard. I believe you need a lot more than a little red sidemarker to put this off [IMO]. Maybe this link would help
Also if you are firm on red, perhaps you would consider doing just red from the crease and below so you dont have that weird looking red shape on the side of your car.

I wasn't on the bandwagon myself. I actually saw the picture and immediately my "wth" alarm went off. And if you can see, I actually took my time to explain to you why I was against it. So I would you hope appreciate my feedback even though it's negative.

5th gen is a nice grocery getter. And hopefully it wasn't said out of sarcasm.

I do agree comments were a little rough, but you did ask us what we think. You should edit your post and specifically ask for positive/constructive comments if you can't really handle our negativity of your creativity.

Since you did, honestly right now it looks retarded. Tan interior, stock exterior minus the yellow fogs. It doesn't even really match anything on the car except the rear corners and somewhat the SE tails. If you are going to do a bunch of red stuff, execute it right.

It matches the side marker light... but only the rear one. You should have painted the front mudguards ORANGE to match the front side marker lights

I actually saw someone driving a silver maxima with a scoop on its hood, also there was a huge dent on its back door("ricing" gone bad).
