00 tranny shifting out of gear while driving
2000 maxima gle auto will occasionally, while normal driving conditions instead of shifting say from 2 to 3 or 3 to 4 it shifts down to first gear and redlines till you take your foot off the gas. Then if you try to give it gas its still in first gear and wont up shift.
If you put it into neutral and shut the car off and turn it back on and shift into gear it works fine. This problem only happens about once a week anywhere from 15 minutes after start up + and its not like its being driven real hard, and all other shifts are fine.
I think it is possibly the TCM but I want some conformation on that and any other incite. Also if it is the TCM where is the best place to buy it and about how much $.

Hi, sounds like what happened to my car. If you can, get your car scanned for codes. If you get a P0720, its the revolution(speed) sensor. More info in the link below.

Best of luck to ya both!

Just got back from the dealer and they could not find any codes most likely because I disconnected the battery in an attempt to fix the problem. It happened again driving down the highway so I just turned off the engine and restarted and it went away, however, with jerky, random shifts. No check engine light yet, just o/d light blinks. I am starting to lean towards the revolution sensor as the problem, but I won't buy anything yet until the SES light comes on so I can scan the computer.
I'm not 100% positive, but I am sure the O/D light blinking is an error code. I think you may need a consult II to check it out. Try calling the dealer and speak with the service department to get their input.
Just got back from the dealer again today. After driving it 70+ last night, the issues started happening again. I took it in today and they scanned the transmission computer and found that it was indeed the Revolution Speed Sensor. The Service Advisor also said that there is a technical service bulletin that the wiring harness that connects the sensor to the tcm can sometimes short out, causing the problems that I was having.
thanks guys sorry i havnt been back been really busy.
i will check out the speed sensor and check for codes. just reset the computer after trying to fix the ground on the o2 sensors. so i will see what comes back up.
