Sun Visor Removal

Time to draw from the org collective wisdom

I need to disassemble homelink transmitter built into driver side sun visor/mirror. I can't find the way to remove the visor to deal with transmitter off the car.

The original problem: it is mulfuctioning by randomly opening/closing my garage doors. It took me a while before I figured out who was doing that . The car could have key in or out, it also depends on the weather and such - a lot of fun to catch. The scariest case happened when I was backing out from the garage and it started closing the door without me knowing. Glad I noticed this in time.

I appreciate your ideas to remove the bugger. I'm sure it's a bad soldering connection as it depends on me tapping it with a finger so I have some hope to fix it up. Car is 2k GLE.

Bump...

Am I the only one with this feature or the only one with trouble?

Any advice on how to remove driver side 'sun visor'/'vanity mirror' is greately appreciated.

Beyond the three screws and the one connector?

very easy, take out the plastic cover that covers the bracket of the visor by the a pillar, remove screws and unhook the power supply. you'll have to almost destoy the visor to remove the homelink unit, probably better to just get another used one.

Now you're talking! Thank you very much for this info - I couldn't remove that plastic cover easily so I decided to ask first .

It doesn't hurt to verify that the button you use to open the garage door is not getting stuck (pushed in) ocassionally. Mine was doing that. The garage door was opening sometimes when I used the trunk opening button on my keyfob. I realized that the button was stuck by chance when I saw the light still blinking on my visor as I was trying to figure out who opened the door.
