SES Reset I/M Relearn Procedure
SES Reset I/M Relearn Procedure
I had the SES indicator come on 6 months ago on my 2k SE. I purchased a Code Scanner to turn the indicator light off. The original code was a P0171.
The SES light did not light up again but scanning it again recently, I noticed it had a pending (soft) P0171 code stored.
The other day I brought the car in for a NYS Inspection so I cleared the pending P0171 code just before dropping the car off. The tech informed me that the engine monitors were not all ready. 4 out of 8 were incomplete. He told me to drive it fifty miles and come back. It was down to two incomplete monitors and told me to drive it another 50 miles but they were still incomplete. I drove it a total of 161 miles for all monitors to be in ready state but by then the shop had closed.
My questions are:
What is the optimum drive pattern for the computer to relearn quickest and have the I/Ms at ready state for an inspection?
Will the car pass the NY State inspection with a pending P0171 code?

So you simply turned off the SES light with the scanner, instead of using the P0171 code and the information here on these forums to fix it?
No, it will never pass inspection like it is.
Replace the MAF, which is what fixes the 171 code 95% of the time.
Then drive the car the recommended 50 miles or so to reset the monitors.
Inspect, pass, be happy.
