Keyfob "Unlock" Trigger
Keyfob "Unlock" Trigger
I read the Door Handle LED install in the 6th gen forums a while ago, and it looks so nice. However, in the thread (http://forums.maxima.org/6th-generat...d-install.html), the LEDs are wired to the door/courtesy lights which apparently light up once the "unlock" button is pressed. On the 5th gens, this does not happen. The door lights turn on when the door is opened. How can we wire something up to trigger when the "unlock" button is pressed?
Lots of members have tried to do something similar. The only wire which can be used for this is the dome light wire, but that has been found to be ground triggered. Good luck and let us know if you find a method.
I've had this setup on my car for about two years now and had to run the wiring, ground and positive to the dome. Works like a charm, unlock the door handles light up, lock them and they turn off.
I'll up a vid as soon as possible.

Please chime in a DIY for the wiring on the dome light end! Did you run wires to each B-pillar then go to each door? Headliner had to be removed, correct?
Pri63, how did you run new wiring direct to the dome? Are the original wires to the dome tucked in the driver A-pillar and you tapped it there or did you remove the roof liner to run the wiring? Thanks
Sorry for the delay...work is owning me.
To answer the question...I wired both the ground and positive leads of the wire up to the dome light because when I tried grounding elsewhere, I didn't get the desired "light on unlock" effect. The dome ground is actually what makes the lights go on and off on the unlock trigger.
Getting the wiring up to the dome without having to remove the roofliner was kind of a pain. I took something a little less rigid than a hanger to snake up the roof liner. I then tied the wires to it and snaked it back through. I thought that was the hardest part...I was wrong. Getting the door handles off and drilling and epoxying a 3mm LED in the handle was a pain.

to add to this, I wired up my puddle lights for my cefiro power folding mirrors up the bpillar and around the sunroof to the dome light. YOU can pry it a little and tuck the wire in. Not bad at all. I then split the signal after the bpillar under the dash rather than run the wires twice from the dome light.
to n3985 and norkoastal doesnt our infiniti's light up when we unlock the car?( i donno how it is when we open with the remote bcus i dont have a remote but when i unlock with my keys the dome lights turn on)
Buyers beware, local pick up recommended. Slow to ship out items already paid for.

the only problem I think might happen if you wire it to the dome light is that when you turn on the dome light from inside the car wouldnt the lights in the handles turn on?

another idea...used this for my puddle lights on my side mirrors...the ring around the ignition that lights up. positive and negative.
