Schizoid SES Light

Just completed a 3500km road trip in my 01 GLE. It was my first long trip in the car (with wife, two kids and luggage) and I couldn't be happier. The SES light came on, lasted for a few days, and then went off after a few hours of rain. No noticeable performance issues. Had an oil change, engine flush and air filter changed and a few days later the light came on again. Lasted a few days and is now off. Again, no performance issues. I haven't had the chance to check for a code, and every time I do, the light goes off.

I know the O2 sensors and MAF are the usual suspects. If they were bad, what performance issues should I expect? I'm not enthusiastic about going to a stealership asking for trouble, if you know what I mean.

If the SES light has come on, there will be a stored code, regardless of whether or not the light is still on. Go to Autozone, have them check the codes.

No performance issues typically are O2 related. A bad thermostat will also cause an intermittent SES without any symptoms other than maybe the car warming up slower than normal.

Thanks for that. We don't have Autozone up here. Anyone know who offers free code readings in Canada?
