H.I.D.s?
Now i know there are lots of threads out there on h.i.d.s, and i did a search, but didnt find a thread pertaining to my specific question. The otherday I was in advanced auto parts just looking around when i stumbled on to xenon h.i.d. headlights. I've always liked the weay they looked but before i picked them up i thought id ask a few questions first. The bulbs I need are the HB2 (9003) and the HB3 55W (fogs). Now, I want to know if i need a relay, and new ballasts or if i can just swap them with the headlights I have now. They look like the same exact bulb shape, and they have the three prong connectors, just like my ultrabright sylvannias. I just wanted to know if a realy and new ballasts were necessary that way i dont accidentaly fry my wiring and melt the housing. Thanks in advance

hmmm... all the advanced auto parts i've been too havent sold hids. I think you were just looking at some imitation bulbs, true hids require a ballast aside from the bulb. Look at the group buy/vendor section in the classifieds. You willl find some good deals on hids in there.

if the bulb says 9003, it's not HID, it's just a regular halogen bulb with a blue tint to give it an "HID look."
Stick with your sylvanias unless you are going to do an 02-03 Maxima HID retrofit...

Yah and watch out for the cheap imitation bulbs, they usually draw a higher wattage to compensate for the loss of light from the tint. Higher wattage can risk melting the harness. Thats what happened to me on my old car, I was using luminics ultra white or whatever and my harness started melting. Stick with halogens if you plan on keeping your stock headlights, they will illuminate the road more which you will appreciate more.

thanks for the help everyone, I'm going to heed your advice and just stick with what I have now rather than wasting my hard earned $$$ on imitation bulbs. Instead I'm putting it towards the $1500 system I'm putting in lol

Practice safe sound....I didn't and my ears get angry in a short order, sometimes with just the factory radio playing low

I went onto that website to search for fog hids and they have 3 different types... fusion, xetronic digital, and xetronic... whats the difference?

No, $325/pair for entire H3 foglight Xetronic analog conversion kit which includes ballasts, igniters, & bulbs....The upgrade bulbs for the factory HID were $169/pair! Their customer service is excellent, any problems are taking care of....
