Engine pinging?

Just want to know how many people have had the engine pinging issue and how many people have had it resolved. I just began having this issue and want to see how widespread it was and maybe find a fix for the problem.

I've heard my engine ping only one time, and I really had no explanation for it at that time (2KSE, 5MT). I was entering the freeway pretty heavy on the gas in 2nd gear, and it pinged on me until I let up on the gas some. It hasn't done it since - even during my track day at Hallett. I always run premium, and my plugs are new-ish. Maybe I got a tank of premium that was "light on the octane."

NWP spacers seem to help. Not sure if it's because the oem gasket leaks a little bit causing a lean condition, but it helped on my car and another friend of mine as well.

only problem is spacer are expensive, did you have pinging and the spacers resolved it?

yes, but I'm not saying the spacers solved it. It's possible the oem gaskets were leaking. With the NWP's you use an RTV sealant so it guarantees that there will be no leak.

Ummm...fix the leak going into your spark plug. Let me guess...#5? A fouled-out plug is one that is being a slacker, which would cause pinging. 5 1/2 plugs firing would definately be a cause of that. Of course, you're running super-so what else could it be? Spark or fuel. Cause and effect. And while you have that intake off fixing the leak in the back cover...NWP Spacers!!! Church!

Mine started pinging today. It doesn't happen all that often. I think its the cheap *** gas that we keep buying today that contributes to alot of the pinging in our motors. Who knows what is in the gas where purchasing for our vehicles. I've never seen an CEL on my Max, but my max has less than 50k miles on my car.

when did misfire cause pinging? also the oil leaking into there is just a hassell with checkign oil level. i thought about spacers.
