Quick Alternator wiring question
Quick Alternator wiring question
I am installing a 200A alternator in the next few days for my audio setup. Looking to upgrade the wire to 4 or 0 gauge and run that directly to the battery. If I bypass the original wiring, am I going to cause any problems?
Or should I just hook up the extra wire in conjunction with the original which will let the current pick which wire it would use.

Old wiring may stay or go, no problem. Original has a 120A fuse (good?) ... bad, oxidized, melting fuse may become a hazard itself...
The only problems I fear, is worn/broken wire insulation = shorting. With thick nonfused wires this may pose a fire hazard. Use lots of tie wraps. Try to make it also collision proof...
I have nonfused thumb thick wires to my H4 lamps - enough light is on top of all, fires hazard is below it. This is an oldie problem - now solved http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507/11
