Getting gas is a pain...

Ok so for the last 3 times I went to get gas for my 2000 SE I have been having issues with the pump staying on. I went to three different gas stations and two I had a quarter of a tank and one a little less than a half. Is that the vapor lock? If so how do I fix it? I'm in New Jersey by the way so we have people get our gas for us and its embarassing.

I've been having the same problems. I'll set the handle thing to auto fill and it'll just click off after a few seconds. If I hold the trigger half way, maybe a little more, it'll fill up, just slower and then stop when it's actually full.

So I thought it was just the pumps I've been using, but if you're having the same problems I guess it's something with the car itself.

I had the same issue for a while. I simply inserted the nozzle as far as possible and then backed it out an inch or so. I don't know if this is the safest way to "solve" this issue, but it seems to have worked.

Hmm. I'll try that but then again people do my gas for me. Lately I just do it myself. If anyone has an actual solution to this please let me know.

Have you tried not putting the nozzle all the way in? Maybe pull it out just a little, I have to do that for my wifes car.

oh, i think we are talking about different things...

All kidding aside, maybe there is an obstruction in the filler tube which is creating enough back pressure for the pump to think it is full.

I dont know how handy you are but you might want to start digging into the system to see if you can find something that doesn't look right.

Could the filler hose be kinked?

it's unlikely but possible if the tank shifted or something. Take a look under there and maybe you will be able to see the problem

Yea mine did that same thing for a while, but then one day it just seemed to go away... Idk maybe there was something obstructing the path of fuel.. Its in the tank now haha

Sounds like the filler vent is clogged with something or fuel is splashing back on it. Had an old crew cab dually that did this, turned out the company that installed the dually package kinked the hoses when they were putting the fenders on (Turned out it was a add-a-dually and sold as a real one).

Hopefully it won't all leak out like when I tried putting the pump upside down. It got back up and I lost like a 50 cents worth of gas :O And my car now smells like gas.
