My very low VIN on my Maxima makes me believe it was one of the very first '02s in Texas, if not the first.

Hate to see you part with your Maxima but the WRX is a damn fine car too. '09s got bumped to around 264 hp, amirite?

I was looking into an 09 WRX a little bit back, and I'm sure you know, but you're first mod for power (or even economy) should be an AccessPort. Awesome little thing. For those who don't know, some of the aftermarket Subie places (like Perrin) will make maps specific to your mods, even down to what fuel you want to run. They even make maps for Valet mode (doesn't let you go over 3k RPM) and Kill mode (can't even start the car - great if you leave your car somewhere for a long period of time) and even fuel economy maps that reduce boost and other things. It also displays your boost and some other cool info. Definately the best bang for your buck. They're saying the 09s with an Stage 1 AP flash (includes TBE and CAI), you'll be eating STi's. That's about $600 for AP, $300 for intake, and agbout $500 for a TBE - if you got the SPT exhaust from Subaru, you're putting in less than $1k for STi-like performance, even though the SPT exhaust is a CBE. It's still a pretty good exhaust.

What are you gonna do about the tires though? It was nice that they changed them to 225 in the 09, but they're all performance summer tires. Look like that won't do for the seasons where you live lol

Also, I LOVE the sound of the boxer motors. Did you get yours with the factory SPT exhaust? They really make that thing purrrrrrr. What options did you get with the car? With an intake, you'll really hear the turbo. And, again, I'm sure you know, but keep that thing under 3k-3500 for the best MPGs.

Cool car, and I like your Max too. Tell us some more about the WRX

yup, right around there. It is CONSIDERABLY faster than the maxima over about 2000rpms...

Yeah, I've read up on the access port. But I will probably run the car in stock-class autocross next year, so that's an illegal mod...Besides the fact that I want to keep the car near-stock (especially the engine) while its in warranty. It's plenty fast as-is....straightline is almost as fast as STI (since the WRX weighs 200lbs less), but since I don't drag, doesn't really matter to me.

Mine does have the SPT exhaust, though I find that it's a bit loud for my liking (the 09 SPT is apparently much louder than previous models). I'm going to do some sound deadening in the trunk, which is just bare metal with NO deadening at all! I'm still getting used to the boxer sound. I've never really liked it and still don't love it, honestly. But that's what radios are for. I prefer a quieter car (why my max had the frankencar exhaust), because I like to keep a low profile.

The summers are fine for 3 season I think. Luckily, the LM-22 Blizzaks off the maxima will fit just fine on my factory wheels so i can use them in the winter (3% speedo error, but who cares).

The WRX has been getting 24+ mpg so far (computer and calculatons both confirm it) after 3-4 fill-ups. And that's about 70% city/suburban driving and 30% 70-80mph highway with frequent jams. So pretty good so far considering the max averaged 21mpg the whole time I owned it.

there's a thread on the WRX in the other cars section for more discussion if you so desire.....

the maxima is much nicer to look at than the WRX (which looks pretty boring and not particularly stylish). that said, the WRX is alot more fun to drive, and has about 149,500 less miles on it....

I sometimes think I should have gotten a Legacy GT, but for autocrossing the WRX is better. If I wasn't autocrossing the LGT would have been my #1 choice....it was a great test-drive also, plenty of power, AWD, and a nicer interior than the WRX...you should check it out.

Definately understandable. But the dealer won't see the AP when you "un-marry" it from the ECU and take it into the dealer, so you would have nothing to worry about if you loaded a map. It does make the car run better, atleast it did with the 05 Legacy GT's. That what my dad has, and it would hesitate and stutter and an AP flash with the 93 octane performance map cured everything.

I think you'll grow to like it What's weird is that there was a discussion about how the dealer said the 08 SPT exhaust wouldn't fit the 09s. Apparently, they're the same part number so I'm not sure why it would be louder

I'll head over there too and check it out.

Been nice getting to know you... the ORG has come a LONG way over the years and a big part is because of your dedication and support of it... and of course your love of the Maxima. Take care!

Could be louder because the 09 runs a larger turbo and freer-flowing cats

So given the same tires, which car do you think is quicker at the AutoX track?

The stock scooby or the max?

Once I learn how to drive it, I have no doubt the rex will be faster....it's lighter, shorter wheelbase, AWD, has much quicker steering, and at autocross speeds it will be right in the peak power of 2nd gear.....and you can throw the rear around easier. It's gonna take some practice though. gabe (gdmaxse) who used to autocross his 3rd gen (and is a great driver) has been co-driving a WRX this season and says it's a completely different style of driving on the course...

dont' get me wrong, I beat alot of WRXs and STis in autocross in the max, but I like to think that was because of my driving ability and their lack of.....

The max had a few major shortcomings for autocross, especially the long wheelbase and lack of traction coming out of slow corners. I still had a great time with it, though, since you don't see many maximas doing it. You see a mllion WRXs, so I won't be anything special
