Bosal OE replacment exhaust
Will be replacing my b-pipe and muffler on friday with a Bosal OE style replacement. My OEM on is shot and the car sounds like hell. I just couldn't spend 350.00 for a nissan muffler and 300 for the oem bpipe so I found a cheaper route. This combo only cost me 205.00 shipped. Seems like a quality unit and i figure I'll need to find some nice exhaust tips to finish off the muffler. Didn't want a performance muffler cause I like my car quiet.....sorry for pic quality

Please let us know how it sounds. I had my muffler replaced by Midas and it was way too loud. After living with it for almost a year I couldnt take it and installed the nissan muffler myself. The Midas unit was noisey from stop up till about 60mph. Then the sound of the wind and road noise drowned it out.
I dont want to jinx you or anything, but the Midas muffler looks like the one in your photo.
Good Luck! Ray

Had exhaust put on today for 50.00 at Midas which include the 2 gaskets I didn't buy. The exhaust sounds pretty much like stock, maybe a litter throatier but hardly loud at all. For 200.00 shipped it is a great deal. Fit is perfect, only took them 20 minutes to put on and I was out the door. So if your looking for a inexpensive fix for rusty nissan exhaust and don't wanna spend a lot of money then try Bosal. I am sure Walker and Ansa are good to but Bosal was the cheapest.....I will try to post a sound clip ASAP

boondoxmax: what year is your maxima? I checked out www.autopartsway.com and put in 2002 maxima and they had no resonator pipes (center muffler) for the '02 in replacement parts. Under performance parts they only had one resonator pipe (bosal) which in the notes specified "california. exc. 20th anniversary..." (Part #: APL33-1725465) which was priced around $101.95, is that the one you bought? My '02 is not a California spec. so I'm hesitating buying that one since it has that in the notes... Thanks

Shinjiduo: thanks for the info, fact is I haven't even registered my 02 maxima yet, so I don't know certain details about it. I just figured they followed the Fed. & Cali. emission spec from the years past.

I highly doubt it. It's not a performance muffler, just OE replacement muffler. It's has a nice growl to it compared to stock but isn't where as loud as most performance mufflers. For 200.00 shipped for muffler and b pipe I don't think it would be possible for it to be mandrel bent due to the cost of those machines.

Running thru NAPA's exhaust catalogs I found p/n 53295 2000-03 Oem replacement for $168! I do wanna tell you that the OEM rear muffler is a trick muffler! At low speed it flows out of one exhaust tip only to increase torque and throttle response. At high engine speed both tips are flowing, enhancing breathing capabilities.....While you're at it... you might wanna get some of those NAPA exhaust mounts that are just as beefy as the expensive Nismo brand!

Yeah, on there website they claim to be OEM maker for many automakers. Even though my muffler and b pipe was inexpensive it seems to be a quality made unit and should last 5-10 years without problems.......

Yeah I am aware that the nissan muffle has the flap but do you honestly thing it makes a big difference in performance. I havent noticed any difference in performance, but the bosal sounds better. I wasn't looking to pay 350.00 for a OEM muffler so I got and aftermarket OE muffler and b pipe which seems to flow just fine. The muffler in the NAPA cat. is problably a maremount brand or walker muffler but it isn't Nissan brand....
Regarding the OEM trick muffler I can feel the difference when I swap in different exhaust setups, I think it's more responsive at super low rpm traffic than my Cattman muffler! But the mid range and upper rpm of the Cattman is untouchable, it breathes so much better!

To open you eyes some...most of the stuff bought at the dealership isn't necessarily Nissan brand either it's manufactured by some other company/vendor and placed in a Nissan branded package... But back to the rear muffler it's not a Nissan brand but it's a OEM replacement so it should entail all of nissan designed features.

I am in the same bucket and am going to gamble with this exhaust. Reason for the questions is that the two pieces I am ordering compared to what you ordered is "short" money wise. Not complaining but I want to make sure I get the right parts so as to not deal with returns.
I am using the website you ordered yours from. Can you verify what you ordered with what I "think" I should order? Mine is also "broken" from the cat back.

The muffler is correct but the intermedite pipe is wrong. It should run you about 99.00 dollars.

Thanks!
EDIT: I think I found it. Its considered a "center" muffler and listed in a different spot. The "intermediate pipe" seems to be from the cat to the center muffler.
Does this look right?

Walker Quiet flow has 1 outlet iirc and is not a direct bolt on but will fit once fitted with hangar studs etc...The Bosal is a direct factory replacement with dual tips but not incorporating the internal variable flow flap.....

I just picked up a Bosal and it has slant cut exhaust tips (not like the ones shown).
Need to call the muffler shop tomorrow to schedule to have it installed and possibly install the popular Magnaflow exhaust tips.
