tires safe for stock AND dropped (Vogtland) ride height?
tires safe for stock AND dropped (Vogtland) ride height?
I'm about to pull the trigger on some all-seasons, to put up with the moderate snow in the Finger Lakes region of NY.
The rims are 17x7.5 (front) and 17x8 (rear) 350Z base models.
The tires will be used until summer on my '00 GLE with stock ride height.
After that, I'd like to put the tire/rim combo on my '00 GXE which will be lowered 1.4 on all four with Vogtlands and GR-2's.
I've heard of 50-series 17's doing fine with no rubbing with the Vogtland setup... but that's not my main concern (though it is a small one which I don't want to bite me in the ****)...
Given my +30 and +33 offset, and the widths I'll be using, I'd really like to get the *right on* width for my fifth gen... for some reason, I'm thinking that if I pair 50 series with a 235, I may actually rub with the Vogtland setup... or should I not worry about that given my offset?
My range of desire is from 225/45R17 to 235/50R17, and anything in between.
Suggestions?
Thanks!

bump!
I'm definitely leaning towards 235's due to their rim size range which is more in line with the 7.5's & 8's.
Can anyone here gimme some feedback on snow traction with 235's? I'm just a bit apprehensive that 235's may be to slippery of a width regardless of the chosen tire's snow/ice performance.

d'oh.
mods? Please forklift this to the proper forum?
Thanks for the responses anyway, guys/gals.
... I'd get 235 50 series if I can find them a bit cheaper. Damn, I could afford ANYTHING like 6 months ago, and now I gotta be picky with tires...
I might have to get 45 series if I do up 235's.
... hey, can someone tell me what 225's look like on an 8" rim? They're as narrow as I can get for these rims.
Yeah you'll fine, I ran a set of 275s at one point with a 30mm offset, I currently run 245s and never rubbed once and my rims sit flush with the body. I am dropped on Eibachs but thats only 0.1" less then your Vogtland springs
I went slightly wide and got a set of 245/45R17 Fuzion Hri's for $88 a piece.

I anticipate that i'll have a bit of learning to do with these tires as I've driven in snow for years with various tires in various states of disrepair, but I've never manned a set of new 245's. Add to that the GLE's traction control system and I should be fine as long as I'm cautious.
