Torque vs. HP. This is confusing
Just read the posts here and from what i understood is:
If you have two 3.5L (VQ) engines with same torque, HP should be the same, at least theoretically, right?
Now if that's the case, is it possible to have the same amount of HP and not the same amount of Torque?
I'm asking because the 02 Pathfinder puts out 19 lb/ft. more torque over the Altima/Maxima yet has pretty much the same horsepower rating (240 for auto, 250 for manual)
How's that possible?

SUVs are tuned a bit differently. They have more torque available down low than cars do. Trade-offs are made between having power down low vs power up high. Although the pathfinder engine has more grunt down low, it may run out of breath at higher rpms, whereas the maxima/altima engine will have a stronger high-end.

Usually, trucks or SUV's are built with more torque because they are built for pulling a trailer or some type of off-road use. Hope that helps...
Ah. I see, that explains why the Pathfinder had a lower top-speed based on what i saw on the gauges.
Anyhow, based on that explanation... would you agree that the Alt/Max are also tuned differently and as such the Max really does have 255 while the Alt has 240hp?

well, I think Nissan does claim that the altima engine and maxima engine are tuned differently. How, I don't know... could be a number of things: ECU, intake, exhaust... But, a dyno would uncover what real differences there are between the two engines and if the 15 hp difference is for real or not.
Speaking of dyno's. I'll be doing mine in an hour and was wondering if i should fill it up with gas before i do that or just keep it as it is now? (1/8th tank).
Any other tips i should take note of before doing the dyno?

Not much you can do - if this isn't too late already - aside from getting there early so your engine can cool. You can lose some hp if you've got "heat soak." They'll open the hood for you.
If there is a fan nearby, let it blow on the airbox intake. That'll at least give a little air flow like you'd get on the highway.
I'd also have them do one run in 3rd and one in 4th.

Well, your assumption isn't true. Look at the 92-94 SE's VE engine. It has 190 hp with roughly the same torque. The 95's VQ had 190 HP but around 202 ft/lbs of torque.
