Bose HU Skipping on CDs? Possible Solution.

So ever since I've had my 5.5gen with the Bose head unit, it's skipped on CDs, every CD I've ever put in it to some extent. I've noticed that it was even worse on cold days.

I've always used my PC's CD burner, I can't remember what brand it is.. but a few weeks ago I got one of the new Apple Macbooks (it's sweet) and tried burning a CD with it, no big deal. I put the freshly burned CD in my car and it hasn't skipped once. I've been playing this CD for about 3 weeks now and still no skipping. I've also burned about 2 others and neither of them have skipped. It's also been really cold the past weeks (was about 23 degress this morning and no skipping).

Just to be sure, I changed over to one of my old burned CDs and yes, it did skip, change back to the new CD and no skipping.

I burned the new CDs using iTunes at 4x with text enabled and no track delay.

I think on my PC I also burned at about 4x so I don't think that burn speed is the issue.

Now I'm not saying that buying a new macbook is the solution to the problem, but maybe a higher quality CD burner?

Damn I guess a higher quality CD burner works. I'm happy everything works for you now.

It would be cool to see if something like this helps anyone else out. Anyone else have a macbook that could try it out?

I'm sure a lot of people have already ditched the bose unit altogether though.

there is no solution apart from getting a aftermarket one.

They're Sony CD-Rs.

If I get time sometime later this week, I'll burn one of these same discs with my PC and see if they skip or not.

It'll be like a little science experiment with a control and a variable.

That's funny ... my Sony CD-R doesn't skip, but my Imation ones do. I noticed this a while ago, but didn't care. It is all in the fact that the damn left speaker is out 95% of the time and that it is a POS. Even RDS (FM-text) cuts out. I can't wait to get a Pioneer NAVI deck and rip that BLOSE crap out.

I have a 00 SE with Bose and had the same problem, I was using NERO7 as a burner and every disc skipped. I tried several different brands of CD-R's and they all skipped. I searched google and there was a problem with Nero when burning discs for older CD players. So, I switched to burning with WindowsMedia player and everything works fine. Try different burn software it might work.

it's the anti-buffering out function that's doing the bad thing. it cuts the music data, if you turn it off, should be the same.
