I want to alter this slightly to be able to use the fogs completely independent of parking lights. The 00-01 writeup on vqpower.com does it this way, but their wire colors are different... time to investigate.

No, you missed it. He wants to use fogs without the runners. Let's see what he comes up with.

I'm not sure you can do that short of completely bypassing the stalk in the car. I tried to reconfigure my fogs so they wouldn't shut off when I flashed my high beams, but the switching appears to be in the stalk which meant far more trouble than I was willing to tackle so I left it alone.

Well, trying to decipher the relay - IIRC its a normally off with a signal from the stalk and a 12v supply from who-knows-where. The question is, will the stalk send a signal with all the other lights off... will do some multimeter probing after work.

Pleas Help Fog light rewire Question??

Hey whats up guys. I know this mod is not street legal (cant drive around with it without the headlights) But how about inspection??. Anyone from New york would know if the inspection station would actually check to see if your fogs come on with your headlights and would you fail? Any one from other states can help me out too if they know the regulationS for there state as well? Please Help

You can have the fogs on without the headlights legaly. There have been a few dodge vehicles in my family that do that from the factory. There is nothing to worry about.

Also, I am from Upstate NY and ALWAYS have my fogs on only.

lets post this again in the correct thread: tonight I confirmed that our fog stalk switch supplies a ground to the fog circuit independent of any other lights being on or off. so all this should take is a 12v supply that is on with the ignition but independent from any other lights...

Modified shift_ice 5.5gen fog rewire

this will give you fogs independent of ALL other lights, stalk control, and fogs will go off with the key so you don't forget them.

here's the shift_ice link: http://www.shiftice.com/fog_rewire.html

this is basically like the 5.0gen rewire here: http://www.vqpower.com/v2/articles.php?article_id=24

isolate the 'air con' relay, its easier if you take it out of the box.

splice the BLUE WITH SILVER DOTS wire from the fog light relay into the PINK WITH BLUE STRIPE wire from the air con relay. the blue with silver dots wire has plenty of slack that you can pull up from the wire loop going into your fender. attach the end from the fog relay into the pink with blue stripe wire (don't cut this one). Cap/tape off the defunct end of the blue with silver dots wire going into the car.

now do this (the bottle of brake fluid will allow you to see that the fogs are on if you don't have a helper):

What kind of bulb is the stand by bulb in the headlight and where can I find it?

There's that, sure. But what do you suppose he means when he refers to a "stand by bulb in the headlight"? My best guess is he means the little parking light.

If so, it's a very standard 194 Wedge Bulb. About as common as house flies.

You will love this mod with HIDs. Car looks sexy and mean just rolling with fog lights on. I also put white LED lights to replace my parking lights. So the color matches

This mod with my Max is the first mod I did. The relay rewire is the fastest easier way ive seen. In my Altima I cut and rewired to another switch which worked, but that was more like and hr this was more like 20 mins or so. O and I love th oem switch still being functional.

I know this is an old thread. I came across it when I lost the DRL function of my headlights when I switched to LED on my 2001 Maxima SE. I'm so glad I found it!! Now I use my LED fog lights as DRL's after I patched the Fog light relay power into the Air Con Pwr. I just wanted to say thanks guys for the info. I look forward to being part of this forum. Stay healthy and safe

John
