Cleaned Up The Burger on the Engine Cover

Was tired of looking at that warped chrome grossness, so I cleaned it up a bit. Eventually, the majority of my bay will be blacked out, so I figure this is a good start. Thinking about doing the "V6" and "3.5" the same color.

Actually just did that 15 mins ago! I have the NWP block plate, so there is no need for it or it's sensor. No CEL when censor is unplugged either. Here's what it looks like.

where did you get your block off plate and how much. Now did you just remove the vias and canister and block it off or did you have the work done inside your intake manifold too.

http://www.nwpengineering.com/Phenol...rs.html#VQ35DE

At the time, I got it for $60 + shipping. The VIAS, canister, canister sensor and all hoses related to those objects are off. There is no work done inside my manifold (I'm assuming you're referring to the SSIM). No need to do that w/ the block plate, dyno's have proven it's actually worse off.

The block plate was a very easy install, just make sure to keep your stock gasket from your VIAS.

I got the answer for you on that. VIAS removal and block-off plate.

I disagree. One may gain from SSIM, block-off plate and phenolic spacers to cool down fuel.

Cover on looks much better. IMHO, you should polish only the top of the UIM and elbow. That would look sick!!!

did you make sure you put clear coat on the parts you painted to prevent them from going dull and discoloration?

Good job on the project.

Thanks. Looks really good both ways.

What are you impressions of the VAIS block-off plate? I know there is some midrange loss, does the increase after 3800 rpm make up for it?

With the V6 and 3.5, it looks real nice and like it came from the factory like that.

Call me a noob, but what do you mean by the 'warped chrome' though? Mine doesnt look so bad, but do you mean when the plastic chrome is flaking off and has the weird darker spots on it? That is happening on my altima grill (also has the cheap plastic chrome finish).

Indeed I did. I did a bunch of paint projects on the car previous to this, so I've had some practice.

Indeed it does. I remember prior to the plate, the power almost seemed to drop off after 4k or so, however, the pull is now stronger and seems to be consistent if not, increasing as I reach peak RPM.

Here are some dyno's to show the differences between stock IM, SSIM and BP

More or less, yeah, the coating on the nissan symbol is wavy and possibly discolored in certain areas due to heat the engine produces. I think the mixture of the adhesive and the metallic plastic chemically breaks down at certain heat temperatures. It's the first thing I saw in my bay when I opened my hood, so I figured it was time for a change.

Thanks all for the compliments.

The chrome came off by x-acto knifing and peeling. Took some patience too. And then, I just lifted it off with a flat head. Had to re-adhesive it to put it back on and it more than likely will not be coming off again.

It was 3 years ago, but if my memory serves me correctly, it was high-temp engine enamel, flat-black.
