Alternator Problem

I have an 01 SE 5spd which I replaced the alternator in A few months ago because the alternator was whining and eventually the car died on me with the brake and battery lights on. Now a few months later the alternator whines. What is going on? I have no idea what it is. The connections are clean. Thanks for any help

where did you buy your replacement alt? remanufactured alternators are known to have short lifespans

That about sums it up.

Why did you post this thread twice, an hour apart?

yeah i second that, my first alternator was from auto zone and rebuilt/remanufactured and only lasted about six months. i went crazy trying to figure out what was wrong because i just would not accept it was the alternator already.

unfortunately it was and org members suggested o"reily auto part stores. much better rebuilt product. ive had it for about 50k with no problems yet

Ya remans suck... but did you replace your battery or do a voltage test on it when you replaced your battery last time, if the battery is weak (has a dead cell or 2) then the car might seem fine but the alternator is always trying to juice a $h!tty batter and eventually works it self to death

How tight is the belt? Too tight and it can cause the alternator to eat bearings.

I second the belt tightness. A belt that is installed VERY tight will cause bearing failure on the accessories it is driving....

don't think it is the belt being too tight. That was one of the first things i checked. The voltage is fine. Do reman alternators whine louder than normal maybe? I got it from advance.

My ac compressor just seized up on me and I didnt have the cash for a new one as it burned thru my serp belt, I cannot locate a serp belt for a 2000 max without ac so I am stuck until i find one eventually or buy a new ac compressor.
