time for oil change

i am coming up on 1500 miles and i am going to get an oil change tommorow at the dealership. should i just stick with their oil???(quaker state) i plan on switching to synthetic @ 6,000 miles. i prefer to use castrol 5w-30, i have always used it. but since i am switching to syn is it worth it??? any comments or experience would be apprieciated. thanks.

personally, i wouldnt worry about it that much. if youre switching to syn at 6k, i would just use whatever regular oil they offer. if you really want to use what your comfortable with, then just buy a filter and take it to a firestone or some place and they will charge you like 10-12 bucks to do it, if you dont want to do it yourself.

I agree I mean if they are probably using the same stuff that is in there now I doubt you have to worry. Not to mention that since your switching soon there should be no problem.

When you say you are coming up on 1500 miles, you mean you only put just 1500miles on this oil and want to change it out now? That is not necessary.

If I'm not mistaken, on brand spankin new cars aren't you supposed to change the oil the 1st 1K mileS? I changed mines too @ 1500.. And then Syntec @ 4500...

Is there a certain time that you should use synthetic oil ? Or is it okay to use it at 1500 miles which I plan to do.

You should not use synthetic oil during the break in period, otherwise your rings won't wear and seal properly. Anytime after the break in period should be fine to switch to the syn...I switched at 5k.

Before my first oil change, I called all of the area's Nissan service departments asking when it's a good time to switch to syn. Almost all of them said anytime's a good time, whether it's the first oil change or the 3rd. And there's also people saying it's wait until the gaskets are well seated. What I did was I used a dino oil/syn blend first then swithced to full syn afterwards. But of course that's me .

yes this is my first 1,500 miles. and you should wait until you get above 5k miles to switch to syn. when the service guys give you advice, ask them if they did it that way with their own cars???
i think i will just let them do the oil change every other time so i can get the lube job.can't for get about the lube job!
most everyone is using mobil1 for the syn right???

thanks for the input

oil change

I'm pretty sure the manual says it's not necessary to change the oil, for the first time, until the recommended mileage interval. I'm on schedule 2 (7500 miles). I changed for the first time at 7200 and switched to mobile 1. I just changed mine this last weekend at 14.2K. I recommend letting it drain over night if you can.

If you do this change @1500 then 2 more @3000, you can switch to Synthetic @ 7500 which will insure that your rings are seated. I read an NASCAR article in "Hot Rod" or "Car Craft" magazine where one of the team engine builders had run two identical engines using dyno oil in one and synthetic in the other. He stated that when they tore down the two engines after 500 miles, the one running dyno oil showed visble wear to the rings and cylinder walls while the engine with synthetic still fad the cross hatch marks from honing the cylinders, suggesting that the rings had never even touched the cylinder walls! I use Mobil 1 based on the % of maxima.org members that recommended it. You WILL feel a difference in your engine by using it.

Damn thats good to know! Ive been using Mobil 1 5w30 fully synthetic for a while now...it might be in my head but the car seems faster smoother and quieter....I tell everyone I talk to definitly to run full synthetic.
